Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Spent some time pottering in the sun, then photographing a few items that I didn't have suitable photos of, in preparation for a clearing sale, as I've decided to retire from making commissions. I'll still do the occasional job for my own pleasure, and if someone wants to buy it they're welcome. Mos...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
When we had rodent problems moving in (or returning) to a house, our cats took care of the issue. Probably not such a good solution when there are coyotes to take care of the cats. It would be interesting to see a coyote take on an Australian feral cat. They grow huge, and I've seen one chase a fox...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Mrs Hydro was a pre-school teacher, so her clients were at the other end of the age scale. In her room they had 4 teachers, 16 kids from 6 week to 2 years. The drill was, two teachers grabbed the ends of a rope and walked out all the kids who could walk, hanging on to the rope. The kids who were too...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Here, a lot of people are using poisons to get rid of rats, with disastrous consequences for owls and other predatory birds. There are better poisons available, but they are more expensive, and the big hardware stores won't carry them. I use a traditional trap, but try to position it so it's not acc...

Re: Co-pilot Halucinating
I met Andrew when his usual tandem partner (my boss) couldn't make it one day and asked if I could fill in. I did - for about 15 years. We've known each other for about 40 years and as well as bikes, we share an interest in woodwork...and yes, he still has all his fingers. He did his honours thesis ...

Sorry, no aviation content. A blind mate has a job which includes testing new hardware & software that may be useful to people with disabilities, and educating makers and users about what works and what's around. Recently he's been testing various AI programs, including some that can look at an imag...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
I feed the birds with seed (and, sometimes, peanuts), however there are some who say that the birds should be left to find their own natural food-sources. We only give a small amount of food, so they don't become dependent. The magpies particularly prefer to find their natural food, and when it's p...

Good morning all, clear blue sky here today, magpie singing outside the window. (Demanding morning tea.) Currently 13C, forecast max 17C. Gordonia & banksia are flowering, allowing bees to do a final stock-up for winter. Must feed Maggles.

Just got word from D#1 that she passed her CFII checkride. :YMPARTY: It was delayed by a month due to fractured and lacerated fingertip from having her instructor slam aircraft door while they were troubleshooting problem with door latch. :-o :(( Only thing left for her to do is get her multi-engin...

Sydney Swans leading Carlton 96-51 at 3/4 time. They'll now be two games clear of Geelong who are in 2nd place.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
The home vege garden has many benefits. There are always fresh veges, pottering is good for my mental & physical health and home-growns are excellent tradeables. At one stage, our neighbours and us had an excellent cycle going. I'd give them sawdust for the chicken coop. when they cleaned it out, th...

When I worked one of the chaps I worked with went on holiday to the Dominican Republic and went on a rafting trip with his wife. He said it was a disaster, very frightening and half the people fell out with the good swimmers having to work hard to rescue the weak ones. A couple of days later two pe...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Thanks Llondel, replacement is pretty straightforward with a couple of beefy blokes to help pull the oven out, as is removal of the front panel. I'll see if YouTube can tell me if the thermostat has an adjustment. Many do, but there are no detailed specs available, it seems.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Looks like a neat job. A replacement thermostat is available, but access is via the rear of the oven. Normally I'd have no qualms about turning off at t the cb, and replacing it, but I don't fancy doing any heavy work at present. Doesn't look like it has an adjusting screw, but I may take the front ...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Thanks Llondel, I'll see if I can find online a way to access the thermostat - it's not immediately obvious. If I can see the problem I'll probably be able to buy a replacement on line, as I've bought parts for a dishwasher and washing machine of the same vintage. The company used to have a physical...
