Re: My first car
A coursemate of mine, albeit in the fixed wing stream, was flying Sea Vixens from aircraft carriers before he had a driving licence.....and he failed his first driving test!

........For a few weeks the VW has been vibrating as I accelerate. Getting gradually worse. Been to the VW doctor this morning for a diagnostic test drive. Flywheel diagnosed. Waiting estimate, booked in 29th for two days. I suspect that blows my UK savings and then some.... Had something similar s...

Re: My first car
My first car was a grey 1956 Austin A35 Reg. 975KMV bought secondhand in 1964 for £175. Paid for with a £5 deposit and the rest was a bank loan that my bank manager father set up for me. About 6 months later later I was driving overnight from a weekend assignation in Bournemouth with my girlfriend -...

Re: Chaos in Scotland.
With reference to the ludicrous Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act which appropriately came into force on April 1st there have been more that 3000 cases registered in the first week which are being investigated by 40 "specially trained" police officers. Here is an extract from a letter writt...

A priest, a rabbit and a minister walk into a bar. The bartender asks the rabbit "What'll you have?" The rabbit says "I dunno. I'm only here because of autocorrect."

Re: Ryanair FR6066 tonight
Looking at Arrivals at TER for 3 April it seems there were a lot of cancellations and a diversion. FR6066 is now showing as shortly arriving back at Lisbon on FR24!! Just shows it needs using with caution. So it now appears after a couple of holds FR6066 diverted and never landed at TER. A blocked r...

Ryanair FR6066 tonight
Just looking at the No.1 tracked flight on FR24......a scheduled flight from Lisbon to Terceira which should take 2:35. It appears from FR24 that after a couple of holds near the destination he set course back towards Lisbon. TER METARS have been fine all evening. After quite a while the aircraft ap...

Re: Saw Safety
When I was at woodwork school the asbestos wall behind the table saw operator had a number of holes in it, each signed by the operator who had experienced the kickback. Some of those names went on to become quite acclaimed woodworkers. I've also seen a tooth come off a blade and go through the wall...

Re: Baltimore bridge collapse
Perhaps they need Sleipnir. Two revolving cranes can lift up to 20,000 tonnes in tandem. In my day I thought Hermod was big but this is huge. Edit, posted the Hermod photo in error - here's the Sleipnir, decommissioning the Brent Alpha in 2020. The jacket weighed 10,100 metric tons. Sleipnir (1).jpg...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
In our rural setting the roads are few and far between. In their wisdom Aberdeenshire Council Roads Department have notified two separate diversion routes to avoid two places near home where two separate roads are closed for maintenance this week. The only problem is that both diversions take you to...
