Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI

Late last summer we had intermittent satellite TV reception. It was okay if we had strong winds when the leaves were blown about but no reception in calm conditions. All sorted today when we had two tree surgeons take a couple of metres or so off the top. All ready now for next season when the tree ...

Councillors in Orkney have confirmed a 15% rise in council tax.

https://news.stv.tv/highlands-islands/orkney-islands-confirms-15-council-tax-hike ricardian - time for Stronsay to declare independence perhaps?!! I thought we were bad enough with Aberdeenshire Councillors imposing a 10% rise. Conveniently for the Government, Council Tax does not feature in the co...

Oh dear C16! Good show to the delivery driver. I recommend that you avoid the knife drawer and any other potentially life-threatening locations for a few days. I phoned the supermarket customer support line today with the aim of ensuring the delivery driver got a Bravo Zulu recorded on his file for...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI

Today saw my second visit this month to A&E. The first one was because I stubbed my big toe and ripped the nail almost off. Blood everywhere. Today the weekly supermarket delivery arrived. At the front door I bent down to remove the groceries from the delivery tray into my plastic boxes and impaled ...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI

Looking forward to Bedfordshire tonight. Both of us a bit twitchy about Tuesdays knee surgery for Madame, even though it's same surgeon and hospital as 2023 (but other knee, and no infection this time). Hope all goes well for Mrs OFSO's knee op. Fortunately my remaining 'natural' knee shows no sign...

MOD investigating aircrew cancers

MOD investigating aircrew cancers amid claims personnel were exposed to toxic fumes. It comes after military helicopter crews said they were suing the MOD, claiming aircraft exhaust fumes caused their cancers. At least six cases are understood to have already been settled out of court by the MOD, w...

Speaking to a friend who is a prison visitor, she says that an inmate who works in the prison kitchen tells her that when chickens are delivered to the kitchen they always are missing the right leg....... :-?

Looks like a Consolidated P4Y Privateer. That tall tail is very distinctive. The only airworthy one is based at Casa Grande, Arizona which is quite close to Lake Pleasant where the Mars landed:

Re: Where and When

A classic case of Dynamic Rollover. https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/457152 Airport surveillance video footage depicted the helicopter lifting off and translating a short distance to the right. The right skid appeared to make contact with the ground again, and the helicopter immediately began r...

The sad state of journalism today - from the online AberdeenLive website: Aberdeen experienced the worst earthquake of 2025 it has been reported as four quakes strike UK in just eight hours For a start they are rather late with this 'news' as it happened three days ago. It was magnitude 3.5 and 160 ...

Re: A new Bristow copilot and his Youtube channel

Definite immense satisfaction especially on those dark icy winter nights when everything had to come together. I didn’t enjoy IBCs either but VBCs were good fun. Even if I had been under the maximum age to jump ship to the airlines in the 1980s I wouldn’t have done that - it never appealed to me.

OK, apart from many, I am sure, challenges and I hope good money what is the attraction? I never planned to be in Aberdeen on North Sea ops. The helicopter company I worked for in Sussex was bought by British Caledonian in 1979 and in under a year the choice was move to Aberdeen or be made redundan...

Re: A new Bristow copilot and his Youtube channel

Too much hand flying or you just love big airports and a crew to generate interesting stories The S-92 has a four-axis duplicated autopilot with all the sophistication found in modern fixed wing. Only hand flying - on North Sea ops anyway - is the take off and landing. Re the breakfast, that was a ...
