Re: Graduate in the RAF

Graduate in the RAF (1969 recruiting film) At the time of my fitters course, cc. 1955-6. For a NS man to get a place, he needed a degree. The logic was by getting a deree you had demonstrated an ability for learning, so we can teach you. Seeing the course was 9 months, rather a large proportion of ...

Photo couldn't have been for real. Lineys in white denims, really. Ours were a dirty off/khaki colour with hydraulic and glycol stains. Plus I think it's a B1. The hatch door seems very high for a B2.
When was the kink put on the leading edge? I thought it came with the B2, or was it earlier?

Didn't the number of boy seamen casualties cause parliament to change boys terms of service and conditions?

I had trouble with the photo, I had a really good likeness, professional, which I scanned in. They did not like the way that my glasses obscured a very little of my eyes and I had to resubmit a picture without glasses.
It says on the web site that the photo file must NOT be processed in any way.

Re-newing a UK passport on-line

Anyone done this yet?

I'm having a problem meeting the photo specs.

The passport office require the JPEG file to be at least 50KB, but must not be altered by means of a computer.

I'll be trying again tomorrow when the battery for my Cannon camera is charged up.

I think it was Xmas 1975, our Leeds office Xmas do, was held in the Grand. My over riding memory was that the place was cold and draughty!

A number of B-6's became B-15's and 16's. We had 2 sqdn's of such, at Akrotiri during my time there. There might be one of these still around somewhere.

I also did the planning for the "Keine Startbahnwest" demos against the new runway at FfaM. Told the anarchists and spontis to what length the strips of aluminum foil should be cut. Fastening them to pigeon's legs proved difficult, also because due to translation problems they were attached to pig'...

Perhaps all you having booster jabs should think about the third world who haven't got enough of the vaccine to even have their first jab. It is these p...

Back on thread:

The Avro Anson.

Must have been something right about them. We built enough of them and used them for long enough.

WWII meant that the DH91 Albatross was relegated to UK-Iceland flying. It was beautiful and functional. Tried to link to an image, but it was too big for the site.

Re: Best and nicest and most clever and most fit-for-purpose designs

I can't believe that nobody has noted the Hawker Hunter yet! HawkerHunter.JPG I started thinking of a/c I have worked on, that I liked, and thought of the Hunter. I didn't nominate it because I don't think it was ever really tested in prolonged action. The only ones that saw action were the Indian ...

Reading that Radikin bio I was amazed to see that he was born after I joined the Navy! Now I feel really old. :(
Imagine how I felt when I saw that he was born 2 years after I was demobbed!

I served 13 years.

No expert on ejection seats but I thought that with rocket powered ones you could bang out at ground level?
These are Chinese, not MB, so I do believe that all bets are off.
