As Archer says, all this waffle about 'redundancy' is just that. A simple look at the way the bridge spans the navigation route will tell anybody that removing (or even just damaging) a pillar will cause collapse, even if it had been made more 'redundant'. Indeed, I've heard the 'talking heads' now ...
