Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Thames Water shareholders are reportedly refusing to stump up cash for the necessary huge system rectification works (having received huge dividends on the way, of course) meaning there is a threat of nationalisation thus costing the taxpayer millions. Maggie and OffWat did a good job, didn't they.....

Re: Baltimore bridge collapse

I recall one aircraft loss By PM please (so we don't contaminate this thread) - I'd be interested to know how that happened and I'll tell you a story about my Cranwell stude (future Air Marshal,of course) who landed with the brakes fully on the sortie on which I was checking him for first solo - I ...

Quite possibly from the factory! Story of a three-legged stool found in the main tank of an Electra where the guy had been sitting rivetting during manufacture. :-o

Re: Baltimore bridge collapse

As Archer says, all this waffle about 'redundancy' is just that. A simple look at the way the bridge spans the navigation route will tell anybody that removing (or even just damaging) a pillar will cause collapse, even if it had been made more 'redundant'. Indeed, I've heard the 'talking heads' now ...

It appears the ?spin recovery? chute fired just after impact. Sadly, looks fatal.

Re: USS Nimitz

I reckon Nimitz must be by far the easiest boat to throw an aircraft at! Back in the 70s I went on board off Spithead win a group - the sea was very rough and a lot of our folk were sick on the way out to her. Got on the boarding gangway and it was like stepping onto dry land. I stood at one end of ...

The awaited report from SpaceX should be very interesting. One would hope that the apparent failure to sustain ignition on the B and the loss of attitude control on the SS should be relatively simple to cure.

Re: NHS privatisation

What a co-incidence - the guy - Frank Hester - who had made the largest donation to Tory funds ever - just happens to run a software company which has the contract to provide computer services to the NHS, holding most peoples' records. It is called TPP. Unless you 'opted out' a while back, your medi...

For penny-pinching UK readers

You may want to check your bills. My local council has issued the Council Tax bill for 2024/5. In it they show the percentage increase on last year’s precepts for various items. Two items are of interest: The precept for Adult Social Care is shown as an increase of “2%”’ on last year. The actual inc...
