Re: Coronabollocks..

Need help from someone knowledgable in the these things. In Oz so far this year we've had droughts, fires, floods and plague. So what comes next? Alison, a very good question. All of these challenges to the status quo confront us with decisions, political, fiscal, and in harmony with our cultures. ...

Re: Coronabollocks..

We were dreaming about a long cruise to Spain, France, Italy and Greece next Summer. But then we thought again about it since US travel has been increasingly restricted.. Now we're looking at a beautiful log home on the Au Sable river in Northern Michigan, a famous fishing river noted for trout. We ...

Of course this prog is from the raving left-wing swivel-eyed loony fruitcakes in the BBC so must be dismissed as irrelevant!
A fair assessment, Barking! I'm proud of you!

Re: The US Hamster Wheel

If I read it right, the offending quote as reported by barkingmad , pointing out punctuation errors, wasn't something either President Trump wrote or Mike Lindell said, but a journalist reporting on the item. Both President Trump or Mike Lindell were speaking into microphones, which as some of you m...

Re: Could be a smart move...

Just a reality check. Why in the world would Australia join NZ under such terms as these troubled Australians are suggesting? New Zealand is the last place you'd look for an economic alliance, joint security, or any other contribution. Today, as John Hill demonstrates, New Zealand is too smug, self-...

Re: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

The tabloids are frothing over the Duke and Duchess shenanigans. My sense is that he will at some point become disillusioned and seek an escape. But that's mostly because I think she's a train wreck.

Re: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

When I married my Australian wife 25 years ago, April 5 is our anniversary, we didn't have to do any of the Social Security stuff. We got married and shortly after got her green card. Five years or so later she got her citizenship. Getting public assistance is forbidden in my family - we take care o...

Re: Coronabollocks..

Now that we're approaching the November election, the contest is closing to President Trump versus the Democrat offering, to be determined. Lately Cuomo has been floated as a rescue candidate to relieve the Democrat party of Biden, as horrible a candidate as was Hillary Clinton in 2016, seeing as ho...

Re: The US Hamster Wheel

Your problem, Boac , as you incessantly endeavor to discredit the Trump administration, is that our president is working diligently for the best outcome for America. The people are perceiving that, and his poll numbers ascend. Our current Coronavirus challenge is front and center, and President Trum...

Re: Coronabollocks..

Nobody a year ago could have foreseen the demand for respirators, masks, gowns, and such medical equipment. This challenge is unprecedented and could not have been foreseen. So we're responding. The needed supplies will come forth as industry responds in a few weeks. That's how Capitalism works.

Re: The US Hamster Wheel

I had the pleasure of working in Dallas for a year and liked the people, the climate and the food. I echo your take, TheGreenGoblin . I lived two years in Fort Worth, close to Dallas. I was a young USAF 2nd Lieutenant stationed at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth, a half hour drive to downtown Dallas, whe...

Re: The US Hamster Wheel

As I have posted its accolades before, Tulum, in Mexico's Yucatan, is my new San Francisco. It has majestic beaches, abundant restaurants serving a range from Mexican street food to very high end cuisine, with lots of fresh seafood, weather that is always good if there isn't a hurricane around, a ma...

Re: The US Hamster Wheel

A delightful interlude, TheGreenGoblin, but the San Francisco he paid homage to, is gone. I've spent a good part of my life hanging out in SF. I realized four years ago, when I still slayed over there before my airline retirement, that San Francisco has squandered its luster and is rapidly descendin...

Re: Minimum wage

When there's a downturn, a lot of places will look to shed the more expensive staff, so at some point an automatic raise becomes a millstone around the neck That's the whole idea. The raw recruit is tasked to improve his skills to justify his higher wage. It's not dissimilar to the wages accorded t...

Perhaps it's a bracket of temperatures in which the virus, like porridge, thrives, not too warm, not too cold.

Minimum wage

I've long held the view that raising the minimum wage tends to lock out young and inexperienced workers, potentially employees, from jobs because they aren't productive enough to justify paying them the minimum wage. Today the US minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. In some higher cost locales that has b...

Re: Coronabollocks..

We're still in the process of gathering knowledge about this disease so as to figure out it's properties and how to combat them. Warm climes seem to be beneficial in reducing its contagiousness. Sunlight seems to kill the virus. Certain pharmaceuticals seem to mitigate its effects. It's true that mo...

Re: Coronabollocks..

No, we change our behavior to defeat the virus. Any way you look at it today, that adaptability is our strength. I'm not certain, but fairly confident, this health and medical challenge will be conquered before too long, maybe six months. The economic aftermath may take longer.

Re: The US Hamster Wheel

All day I've been thinking as I peruse global opinion and media, trying to figure out all this avalanche of virus threat, societal disengagement, economic tsunami, political discord, ideological intransigence, and all. I keep coming back to the conclusion that President Trump is the John Galt of our...

That's a wise strategy. It has been President Trump's mantra all along.
