Re: The Cold War looms again

I remember you were very proud of that. I also remember us saying that you had no excuses when you lost to another fighter ;)))

Re: The Cold War looms again

The frigate is a Udaloy - ASW. The subs we were not required to know, but I think it's an Oscar. I had a trip in a Nimrod once. We were doing fighter affil with them, so we stuck one of their pilots in a Tornado, and some of us got flights with them. This meant we could provide feedback to the crew ...

Krivak I indeed, old-style turrets.
I was holding close formation; my nav took the piccy.
Your distance estimate is way out - we were told to stay 5 miles away ;)))

Re: The Cold War looms again

Command, Control and Co-ordination with naval forces is difficult. We used to participate in the longer exercises because we were the deployment AD squadron, so we would move around airfields to provide CAP over convoys from about 20W through the GIUK gap all the way to the Heligoland Bight, over 4 ...

Re: Air Fryers

Yes, the worldwide nature of marketing means that a US 110V/15A power limit tends to be standard for small appliances, and the ability of European 220V/13A circuits to provide twice that power goes mostly unused - some kettles and room heaters to cater to the British taste for tea in the cold and da...

Re: Air Fryers

Consumption on mine is plated at 1400W. I have it plugged into a long underwired circuit and it's never tripped the breaker. I have not tested it properly, but you should be OK.
I think they are mostly designed to run off a standard 110V/15A circuit.

Re: Air Fryers

Essentially, the size of the container and the rotator thingie. The first being more appropriate is more efficient, both in terms of cost and the ability to keep the temperature more accurate. The second spreads a very thin coat of oil without the aggro of one having to attempt that oneself before b...

Re: Is the 'New European' a contemptible rag?

Like the Dan Snow "I got a Brexit Party leaflet in my voting pack", which he has now retracted, the BS accusations don't even last a couple of days before they are exposed. It makes no sense. Even the average Joe doesn't take anything at face value any more, especially from the MSM. This is just des...

Re: The Cold War looms again

Many thanks again. The same kind of air errors occur in Team Yankee, by Harold Coyle, a US version of a tanker's view of WW3. https://openlibrary.org/works/OL53331W/Team_Yankee Both these books were early 1980s, I think, and it was Red Storm Rising (1986) which changed the game for the level of tech...

Re: The Cold War looms again

Thank you.
Just north of Oslo and Stockholm, then through all those mid-Baltic Islands, then across the forests starting around Pskov? You'd only have to cross 4 roads in the 400nm between the Gulf of Finland and the Moscow ring road

I've spent a month in the harbour at Arrecife - mostly not windy. Fuerteventura is always windy, hence the name. No decent anchorage there either.

Re: Is the 'New European' a contemptible rag?

The Establishment still seem to think the people who will vote for Farage can be influenced by headlines, or the BBC. It would appear that they can't get out of their bubble. Wheeling out Blair and Broon is hurting their case even more rather than helping it. When the Welsh have dumped Labour, and t...

Re: What is your most satisfying 'food'?

Trenchard pulled the Rock Soup trick with College Hall at Cranwell. New buildings were banned, so he placed the foundation stone and applied for an "improvement" grant, secure in the knowledge that no Whitehall bureaucrat would drag his backside off to the wilds of the Lincolnshire fens to check.
