Re: USS Nimitz
Boac - I can imagine that. Peak to peak waves of 20 or 30 metres will have a big effect on a ship's boats :ymsick: but next to no effect on a ship over 330 metres long and displacing up to 100,000 tons. I suspect these swells were caused by a severe storm some way away and were lengthy enough to cau...

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Given the current government is worse than the last one, and that there is ample evidence that this applies right the way back through previous governments for at least 30 years, whichever party gets in, and that this is true of leaders and governments throughout the western world, what are the odd...

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
I couldn't sum the present situation up better than this letter in the Spectator. Will Sunak be bumped in favour of the much more capable Mordaunt (she must be better because of the amount of criticism she is receiving)? Personally I think the Tories are out for many years and deservedly so, but can...

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Authorities seem to be scared stiff of causing a twitter storm or having statues/paintings/windows/roads glued or re-painted by the self-righteous moronic hordes -instead of sticking to their principles. That's the principles that the silent majority are keen on maintaining, but dare not speak for f...

10/10 Ex-Ascot - Socotra off the Gulf of Aden. Had a quick look there en route to the Far East in 1974 - very barren - and Russians lurking around.

'Horror plunge' story continues. A little tape goes a long way... We used to use a little tape occasionally on rotor blades. Not much of it, mind. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/latam-horror-plunge-new-photos-show-heavily-taped-wing-fresh-theory-emerges-about-freak-incident/T2EKR27X3VGV3B2B47LC...

I suspected that the usual victim pleas would be forthcoming - death threats, mental problems etc. If former occurs then leave social media and produce some evidence of speaking to a psychiatrist if the latter is real.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Thanks for the history Hydromet - a very sad event. I trawled through significant events lists from 1921 in Australia and found the start date for Qantas and the RAAF but it was only on the third try that there was an honours treatise from 1977 submitted at the James Cook University North QLD, that ...
