Re: 2015 Fox Glacier 350 Crash
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER Coroner calls for stronger aviation rules after Fox Glacier helicopter crash (2015) How did this take 7 years? https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/west-coast/300660093/coroner-calls-for-stronger-aviation-rules-after-fox-glacier-helicopter-crash In an aircraft with seven (v...

Re: Robinsons - do they deserve their place?
And so the Robinson saga continues. I can't see much point in fitting them with orange 'black boxes' as I can't see what parameters they would record. If the teetering head is the problem causing mast strikes under certain conditions then what can be recorded to help the crash investigators? CVR rec...

Re: 826 Naval Air Squadron - Falklands 40th Reunion and Operational Photos
I had to look him up on Ancestry to confirm the correct spelling of his name though I remember reading about it at the time of his death. We only flew together once in 814 in 1976. He was an observer, about 6' 3" , heavily built, dark hair and a big bushy beard. Where he had been before 814 or went ...

Sadly Doug Squier died in Hobart, Tasmania in 2002. I think he and Helen had emigrated.
Re: Rugby
I just watched the game - it was a good hard game and the Springboks closed the All Blacks down and were the better team on the day. Maybe the ABs' glory days are over, as more countries play better rugby, but I'll leave it to experts here to suggest what the ABs can do about that.

Re: Rugby
The All Blacks are going through a bad patch after the Ireland tour loss, but the trainer kept his job. I suspect on the proviso that they won in South Africa, so think he might fall on his sword after this result. Assistant coaches were sacrificed after Ireland losses. Only silly behaviour came fro...

Re: Departed During 2022
Great mix of cultures TGA! This clip is back to 1966 Fox3 - remembering her initial gospel singing. Her sister was a popular singer with traditional jazz bands around Melbourne and they sang together sometimes before Judith went off to England. Dad was RAAF bomber crew in WW2. We also caught a conce...

Judith Durham - Voice of The Seekers https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/aug/06/judith-durham-australian-singer-and-vocalist-of-the-seekers-dies-at-79 An amazing voice and talent. We were lucky enough to see her last performance on tour in Christchurch about 5 years ago - still an amazing voice a...

Thanks for posting that TGA - it takes me straight back to Lee-on-Solent 1954 - though the colours are different!

Re: Friday Jokes
What a coincidence C16 - I just read this article this morning in the Daily Tripe Mail! At least it's usually good for a laugh, like this clip of a Mamma's boy whose a Mamma forgot to pack his undies or wasn't there to wash them for him. What a quandary - win the race or be done for exposure! :)) ht...

Re: Friday Jokes
I did a spell in the Sea King Simulator before 'going outside'. Rick would stand in as P2 sometimes if the victim trainee pilot had turned up on his own. He had better spatial awareness and handling abilities than some of the junior squadron P2s and would have made a good pilot! He only refused one ...

Re: Friday Jokes
I think some of them make sense, like 'Dusty' Miller, but what was 'Nobby' Clark all about? Mr Google tells me: Why are Clarks called Nobby? In his first autobiography, the multi-talented Bryan Forbes (real name John Clarke, he's probably best remembered for his role of the nudist guitarist Turk Thr...

Re: Friday Jokes
airforce not Airforce.
As PN wrote - it was compiled by the Royal Marines - not difficult with blank pages. Published by Maritime Books in Liskeard. The art work was done by the inimitable 'Tugg' Wilson.

PN - Was this the book you were thinking of?
I found an old copy, printed by a chum at Maritime Books years ago. It's a notebook really as it's blank inside.

Re: Norfolk Virginia Storm Damages 10 USN Helicopters
Shipboard facilities are remarkable nowadays compared to my time at sea. :)) The advent of satellite comms has taken away the need for interpretation of synoptic charts etc in the last forty years or more! That siren would give anyone the willies TGA! Where's the nearest underground shelter? Is ther...
