Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war

Ich habe immer gesagt, dass Russland diesen Krieg nicht gewinnen darf. Und schnell war klar, dass dies kein kurzer Krieg werden würde. Wir werden noch lange Waffen und Munition an die Ukraine liefern müssen. Translated by me: I have always said that Russia can not be allowed to win this war. And it ...

Re: ISAs

I don't know if there is any point in you having an ISA if you live in Finland and presumably paying tax there. Even if you have a UK income that is subject to HMRC rules, if you are a standard rate tax payer you can earn upto £1000 per year in interest on top of your normal tax code without paying ...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

In 1999 we drove down to Luxemburg to see the total eclipse. We were on a hill overlooking a valley, saw the shadow coming towards us at speed below, and then dark! It got cold and the birds all fell silent. A four hour drive for a four minute experience of a lifetime. I would definately do it again...

This is the first morning this week when it has not been pouring with rain. I went to the doctor about my old shoulder injury hurting much more than usual, she booked me for an ultrasound scan in three weeks and told me to use the self referral service for physiotherapy, the earliest date available ...

Same here, I used the HUK Rechtsschutz twice in Germany, a stiff letter from a lawyer stopped potential nastiness in its tracks.

I haven't bothered with it since we came back to the UK.

Re: Baltimore bridge collapse

If the harbour pilot was doing his job, then I can only think there must have been a mechanical failure of some sort.

One report said the ship was 300 metres long, even at slow speed that is an awful lot of kinetic energy.

I am about to go to her favourite place in the flower bed between the rose bush and red lipped sage and make a place for her to be comfortable for the last time. It is done. Carefully wrapped in soft cotton cloth with roses printed on it. It has helped to be able to write a little about her. Thank ...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Nine years ago we were living in Germany near a NATO base where most of the military personnel were on four year tours, some of them abandoned their cats at tourex with the result there was a group of seven or eight stray cats prowling around. One of them took a liking to my wife, always appearing w...

Everything would be labelled in French. I worked with Hellenic Air Force people who had previously been on Mirages, they said all the documentation (APs/T.O.s) would have been chaotic in any language, but with it being in a French that even French linguists struggled with life was very difficult.
