Re: Can I be unbalanced ?

Provided the room with the boiler in is sufficiently well ventilated to provide sufficient oxygen to the boiler there should be no problem. If there is insufficient oxygen supply then combustion will be incomplete and CO will be exhausted instead of CO2. Some of the CO could find it's way into the r...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

Landed LHR from CPT at 07:07 this morning. For some reason the AC could not be parked at a T5 gate so disembarking was by bus to the terminal. Just one bus. Finally exited the AC at 07:54.

The A48 just North of Chepstow has also been a bit sticky over the weekend. A tanker carrying glucose hit a railway bridge on Saturday. Efforts to clean the road took 3 days. Re: Car diagnostics

I have the Autophix OM126 scanner. Easy to use and cancels an occasional engine warning light telling me that the variable valve inlet system is not working properly on my runabout Rav 4. I think there is a poor connection in the wiring harness since the light cancels itself in a couple of days if i...

Re: Knysna, Western Province

As you approach Knysna on the N2 from the West there is a steep hill going down towards the lagoon with a fairly low speed limit. A sensible limit for trucks but uncomfortably low for a car. There is often a police speed trap (think police person hiding in a bush with a hand held speed gun) about ha...

Re: MiG 23 Down at Thunder Over Michigan Air Show

After the sad death of the navigator of an RAFG Phantom whose seat had just left the ac when he was hit by the front cockpit canopy after the pilot gave the command to eject, the agreement between most crews was that in the event of the need to eject, the pilot would announce that by pulling his own...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

A few years ago, whilst touring Transylvania, I noticed that the Romanians had constructed substantial height barriers about 25 m before railway bridges, tunnel entrances etc. The horizontal barrier could be raised to extricate any lorry/bus which it had stopped. That works so long as the workers do...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Years ago when at Brize, No 1 daughter had a severe ear infection. Had to take her to John Radcliffe in Oxford where they gave her some antibiotics and an appointment to come back for a check in 2 days time. Arrived for appointment to find a packed, unventilated waiting room and a subsequent 70 minu...

Pigs can now fly

When I was a serving engineer officer my response to the question, "Could an engineer officer become Chief of the Air Staff?", Would have been "Pigs might fly". Now it is official, pigs have joined the avian species. Congratulations to Air Marshal Sir Richard Knighton. (Tried to post a link, but wor...

Re: Knysna

If you do drive to Knysna be careful to observe the speed limit going down the steep hill just before the lagoon bridge. There are often police speed traps there. Think hand held radar gun held by toned down police person hiding in a bush.

See that one of eight dogs being walked by a 28 year old dog walker in Surrey when she was attacked and killed by them was a Leonberger. Two of the others were Dachshunds.

Re: RAF Scampton closure

It was normal for NCOs working in 2nd line "bays" to wear the brown coats rather than overalls. However, one of the 3 is not wearing an NCO armband so it may have been because the Blue Steel propulsion system did not tolerate oil or grease contamination well. The Cpls are wearing their rank armbands...

The passport agency seems to have got a grip. Made an on-line application for renewal of passport on 30 Dec and posted current ones to Hemel Hempstead the same day. Got an email confirming receipt of passports on 3 Jan and received new one in today's post.

Re: De khaki non est disputandum!

The vegetable dye used for khaki uniforms was made from stewed Blakeney Red Pears. Blakeney is 10 miles down the A48 from here. The khaki I rmember from my army cadet days was definitely brown.
