Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

4ma, we did that journey in June and the first block was at Bridgewater so we diverted to Cheddar and Helen's brother. We bypassed Bristol and rejoined the M5 but soon bailed out. The road we needed was closed without notice and we were bound for Wales. Eventually routed to the Fosse and had the mi...

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

Morning all. Apologies, late on parade today. Spot on, llondell, well done. With a backdrop of the Clwydian Range hills, until 1974, the River Clwyd formed the boundary between the counties of Flintshire and Denbighshire, which were merged to form the new county of Clwyd. Sadly, when Clwyd was aboli...

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

Artnoon all.

Difficult to see any detail in the pic, but seems to have a very slender deck, so fairly modern?
Could it be the Istanbul bridge over the Bosphorus?

Can't top that!
Although the Stan Freberg version of the Banana Boat song has to be close.

Re: Ancient aviation joke

I can still recall the first BCal full breakfast I enjoyed, Glasgow - Gatwick on a 1-11. Having been used to the offerings on the BA Shuttle, it was a welcome change. All was well until the hit-every-step-of-the-staircase approach into Gatwick, they very nearly had the lot back.

FR24 history for today shows a landing at both Warton and Barrow-in-Furness (landed at 14:07)?

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

Morning all. OM takes the prize. It is Nur-Sultan, capital of Kazakhstan, as Woody notes above, " it was known between 1998 and 2019 as Astana and before that as Akmola. On 23 March 2019, following an unanimous vote in Kazakhstan's parliament, the city was renamed to Nur-Sultan, after former Kazakhs...

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

Artnoon all.

None of the above, but OM15 is probably closest. It is the capital of a huge country, formerly part of an even bigger federation.

Making it too easy now. :-)

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

White dog poo. I remember that, mid to late 1950s. Never did figure out what **** that was all about. The story I was told, when once discussing such things with a vet, was that in days of yore, dogs were fed far more bones than they are today. Could be... I seem to recall that the white dog poo wa...

OK, thanks , OM. Will have to look out for the film.

Next up, never been here but is mentioned ( by its old name) in a travel book I'm currently reading.
May be too easy for our well travelled thread regulars.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

Searching on mining/quarry town truckstops proved fruitless, so turned to films.
Then penny dropped re. the clue in your last, so assuming that the fillum might be Nomadland, then this location could be Empire, Nevada.

Looks like a very arid area, guessing at Arizona, Nevada or the Texas panhandle. Not a film buff, so no help from that source.
Looking.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

Evening all. Spot on, OM, the "street art" marks the northern start/end of the Offa's Dyke Path between Prestatyn and Chepstow. The weather pictured counts as a balmy day for the area, I grew up only five miles away from there, so am qualified to say that. :-) The Nova Centre was formerly know as th...

A spring day I think, on the opposite coast.

Edit: the last pic was taken July 2017, so a typical summer day!
