Re: Rant of the Day v2.

1DC, if you want a specialist there is one near Stickney. Bit of a drive but he would loan you an old Merc while yours is fixed, some good eateries not far away or even Skeg.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

RiS Was your girl in Mombasa of any interest in Slasher or me? You should have volunteer to develop and print the pictures. I would have thought that sort of girl would not be a natural scuba diver. As for that river in the Lakes, it was barely 20 feet wide as well. No idea how long the deep bit was...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

We need to run a METAR service for Lake District, although I went there in February 1996 for a morning of dives and it didn't rain. You still got wet though 😀 Reminds me, there is a private spot in Eskdale, perfect for a bit of wild swimming in a river. The water is Crystal clear and about 16 feet ...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

Bob, can't remember the exact details but that rings a bell - charged for more oil than the car capacity. Charged for a full bottle of windscreen washer fluid; I pointed out I had filled the bottle to capacity before the service. A bottle of fluid immediately appeared in the passenger footwell. Also...

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?

Ian I just flashed my ID Card one time. Not a blink. At the time we used NATO Travel Orders and I never had to show anything except the ID Card. Funny thing though, in the V-Force we had a Travel Order valid TFN, years later we were given one per trip. We were also issued a F Ident.179 (I think that...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

Cape, in contrast, at school I needed 2/- or so and asked another boy if he could lend me 2/-. He was barely a friend but immediately gave me a pound (in the 50s). Too much I said. He said if I lend you a pound you won't forget... I guess had you lent £7000 he would not have forgotten but you would ...

Re: Black Lives Matter Bollocks

Next you'll be telling me that clubs can't black ball someone. No more woodpiles just in case. Playing cards to be recoloured. No black workers permitted in flour Mills. Villains no longer black hearted.

Brown nosing, predominantly a white activity also banned.

Re: Coronabollocks..

I read that a German MP wore a gas mask (sorry respirator) in Parliament and the Speaker told him to take it off, he refused so the Speaker would not let him speak.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

Cape, no, Haxey. Yuor, you've never heard of it 😀 First SAAB garage I went to in UK was down an alley in Birkenhead. Two old blokes and a lad, all wearing spotless starched white overalls. Floor unblemished green paint, walls gleaming white. My car had Turkish road tar and limestone crusting the whe...

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?

I believe that the Navy has a way with dealing with submariners, especially when they had their old diesel submarines. Post cruise, all assemble in a shed, concrete floors, minimal furniture, ample stocks of booze. Lock doors, let havoc and personal debriefs begin. These Spanish should learn from th...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

As for waiting for you: the Speedo cable on my SAAB broke. I rang around, found this garage in the middle of nowhere. Yes, he had the cable. I said I would pop in on lunch time. It was waiting on the counter. He asked if I knew how to change it. No. He said there is a nut holding the top of the coam...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

I had a Remmington for a few years. Picked it up on the market £1.50, put the battery in and the effect was good. Standard blade, slide it off, slide new one on. Must admit I don't notice the differed now with the Gillette Fusion rangr

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

Magnus were they any good?

From Gillettes POV they are always seeking a marginal performance change and maximum profit increase. I say change as it is possible and earlier device, say your techmatic might have had a better performance but lower profit margin.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

Garage in Scotland failed to change the oil once and returned the car without brake fluid. Friday night before towing a caravan to the west coast. Hole in the wall mechanic fixed the brakes Friday evening.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

My old man got a blade sharpener in Japan. Small plastic box, you opened it, poped the blade on, closed it and then 'stropped' it pulling it up and down a cord. I think he could get 2 weeks to a month out of it. Ideal as a seaman not knowing where you could buy another packet. Anyone remember a wire...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

#1 Son has received an e-mail from some insurance company congratulating him on his car purchase and confirming he has 7-day drive-away cover for the car until he has arranged permanent cover. He's a bit puzzled as he hasn't bought the car quoted in the cover note - it's the one that he kicked into...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

Ah, ball joints, wishbones etc, disc brake civersr, a shade over £1000 on an E Class. Sold it back to him in March for £1000 as the suspension air bags needed replacing and of course a servicing. Offset a notional cost of £1500-2000 against a new car. Now twice the fuel economy on petrol, half the r...

FD2, it may take a little longer than 14 days or whatever as the primaries may be asymptomatic or mildly affected and the spine by May occur with secondary infections.

How long after such gathering in the States before their infection surge?

Jim, good luck with the scratch. I dinged a car illegally parked, not a scratch on mine. She thanked me for leaving my phone number and g it a quote about £750. She thought too much and a my gave her a quote £350. Good on her shopping around. I gave her £400 so pay for taxis too. You need to get the...
