Re: The RNLI and its overseas spending.

Lars, yes they spend overseas. Their responsibility is to save lives in British waters. What remit do they have for foreign aid? As 4m says, we do charitable work for no wage. I do get expenses for work I do in administration. This is from members' annual subscriptions not from charitable giving. Lo...

Our last watch dog was useless unless the burglar brought his own dog. Present one is even worse for people and dogs. If they were a CAT burglar it might be different😀

How did he do that trick?

At least they weren't weaving up the road. Worse is a group together on up the road.

Lanzarote is worse, loads of those reclining bikes with diddy little flags.

Rotary Foundation also used to do 100% by investing for 3 years. About 10 years ago this was not enough so now up to 5% is withheld though not necessarily spent. Unspent monies are then returned to the pot.

UP, indeed, ex-RN Rotarian who set up Shelter Box within Rotary with similar aims as Aquabox. Then it got separated with hi m treating it as his own fiefdom and shutting out his fellow Rotarians.

I knew a Yarpie sqn cdr used to punch his copilots so hard they would have a numb arm. Met him going through a doorway on his station, got a double hand punch under my rib cage. Winded me.

'Great bloke' much admired, made Air Marshal. In today's world he would have been ousted as a bully.

At what point did the nurses go on to 100% oxygen? Your depth was about 1.5 bar so going on to oxygen and starting an immediate ascent would mean they were soon at less than 1 atm over pressure. I presume you paused the advent at 3-4 metres as well.

Re: The RNLI and its overseas spending.

The lady who is now the Chief Exec.,has introduced lots of political correctness and removed the loyalty that was given to the lifeboat crews hence the reason for crews being sacked or leaving because they cannot serve anymore under the present regime. According to the source above the CEO is Mark ...

The last CEO was a Vice-Admiral. If I received a 3* pension I would be honoured to give my services to such a true beneficial charity. Now, apart from this, I see the new CEO receives over £188,000. Like Marie Currie, 30 years ago we raised a considerable sum each year for them with "everything rais...

Re: RAF Memories

Smell is an immensely important sense. Many times have I been catapulted back 50 or 60 years or more by a certain smell. Years ago a man walked up to our Lancaster, shut his eyes, breathed in, said he could still remember the aroma of hydraulic oil and vomit. I bet Alison will remember the smell of...

AK, not at all. The people might give the right decision this time.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

Useless units I see the paper report on the heavy rain in Spain quotes a record 169 litres per square metre. I suppose one way of thinking is 3 tanks of petrol all dumped in a one metre square tank. That is the same as 169mm of rain on a linear rain gauge. Or, as I calculated, 6.6 inches. My point ...

Raining up here this morning. Unforecast. Watching TV news, scenes of total devastation down the coast of Murcia and Valencia. Thousands homeless and at least five dead. Sounds like you need a reverse forecast. As the weather guesser is right 50% of the time . . . You can also improve upon that by ...

Ric, I was offered one aid by the doctors then went next door to the audiologist and asked for two. Had NHS aids for 20 years. You are entitled to replacement every 5 years. Earlier this year, at TOP, I was encouraged to apply to Veterans Hearing. This is a fund, administered by the RBL, of £18m fro...

In our last village the museum was made by Bolton Paul. It was dated about 1885 and was factory built with all mod cons.

UP, do you still need twice the number of police in Scotland? One to keep the other 'honest' so to speak?

We can manage with one policeman and one PCSO to carry the handbags.
