As someone once said, (maybe it was on this forum?): Anyone who wants to be a politician should not be allowed to.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

OK, a big clue or two.
It's in Switzerland and the lake is named after the town. Or maybe t'other way round!

Thank you Ex-A

Nothing particularly topical about this , just an attractive town with lots of tourists.

Re: Electricy Prices

Shirley, the words "across Europe" , are significant. They mean that there can be different places having negative prices at the same time. so the 7,841 are not necessarily consecutive.

Or am I wrong?

Re: OMG!

Not sure of the actual seating capacity but I used to fly on Garuda F28s regularly when living in Indonesia in the early 1980s. The seat pitch was pretty tight for europeans and they were at least 5 abreast (3 & 2) and coupled with the habit that locals had of bringing everything but the kitchen sin...

Re: To smoke or not to smoke?

Starmer is just exhibiting the typical socialist, 'central control' ideology, "We know what is best for you". I would never encourage anyone to smoke and would strongly discourage it but think Starmer's ideas are several steps too far. The last PM's idea of banning the purchase of tobacco products t...

Re: Cream or jam? Settled now! :)

As a Devonian married to a Cornish woman, this subject has provided us with a minor disagreement for the last 50 years or so.
We still load the jam and cream differently and will probably do so until we are put under the turf!

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

Modern cars are vastly over complicated electronically. My Mercedes has got a warning light on again, Active bonnet protection system inactive" or some such. Apparently if one hits a pedestrian the bonnet pops-up and provides a measure of protection. Warning light came on for some weeks eventually c...

Re: Sticky Business

Seems to me that the way to deal with anyone who sticks themselves to anything is to cut around the stuck body part and send them on their merry way, with, in this case, a suitably large piece of tarmac attached? Is it not easier, and quicker, to firmly remove the offending protester? And if that m...

The gnomes are correct, it is St Michael's Mount but looking at the house from the seaward side. Well worked out G-Man, Mrs S and I went across to the Mount the day before visiting Helston for Flora Day.

G-Man has the chair.
