Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

A remote connection with Ex A's post above. About a month ago, Señora Larss announced that we would be attending a charity dinner and ball in aid of Help for Heroes. This event being tomorrow evening. It is nearly 20 years since I've worn a tie and there was no chance that my old kit would fit. Alas...

Re: Wot's for Tea, Ma?

Slasher, unlikely your salmon was a happy wild one. Norway is the biggest producer of farmed salmon in the world and over 90% of salmon imported into SE Asia is from the destructive salmon farms in N Europe. If you live in that part of the world buy some happy swordfish. 'Malasugi' in Filipino. Grea...

Re: 30 Year High School Reunion tomorrow night....

I went to a second rate English boys boarding school run by a bunch of Irish monks. Left proud of the fact I had 'been beaten but never buggered'. I've done both the 40 year and 50 year reunion of the class of 68. The first was interesting as we compared waistlines and hairlines. Careers had been va...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

Trust Aspara's recovery continues and that the culprit has a tough time in custody. Accidents can happen but driving away from them is contemptible. Last week I mentioned that we had a 6 plus quake in Davao. The upshot for us was having to put a new roof on the house. Seems timber trusses gave way a...

Re: ET crash ADD NBO

Agreed, Fox 3. Any reasonable root cause or Why Tree analysis of these incidents would go way beyond a simple faulty piece of equipment (a simple causal factor) and, from what we know at the moment, look very closely at what appears to be, on the face of it, a dysfunctional relationship between Boei...

Re: Don't touch it until I say "Now"

Sometime in the mid 70s I was on a USAF base somewhere in the USA and chatting with a USAF colonel who had done exchange tour with the RAF.

He had a beautiful line about the Beverly:

"Great ship! Could take anything nowhere."

Interesting building. It seems to be somewhere warm, there appears to be some fortifications in the background. The arches are not Arabic and the Structure has a bit of the Norman about it.

Could it be Sicily? I know Sicily well but don't recognize it.

Re: World Cup in Japan - Rugby Union

I've just re-watched the England v Australia match and feel the NZ v England is likely to be the real final.

Many would favour the All Blacks but I was totally impressed by the England front 5 performance against Oz who were, admittedly, in Hara Kiri mode.

Should be a helluva game.

Never been to Rhyl but enjoy caravanning, camper van and camping. There will be those amongst us who can remember the 1950s housing shortage and the 2 year waiting list for a MQ. In those days many RAF stations had a satellite caravan park. After we came back from Tengah, dad was posted to ATDU at R...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

We returned to the UK about 6 years ago. I had left about 20 years earlier and, except for a couple of funerals, not been back. On return, I had a new wife and the Sproglettes. Being a responsible sort of guy, one of the first things I did was register all of us with the local GP. A couple of weeks ...

Totally. Dawn is like a fresh faced beautiful lass arising for the day whereas a sunset, despite the blaze of colour, is like an overpainted whore out for the night.

Re: World Cup in Japan - Rugby Union

Well, there you have it. The Japanese send the Jockinese "homewards tae think agin"! What a game! The Scots didn't seem to know what hit them in the first house but the size of the mountain they had to climb in the second didn't deter them from trying. The crispness of the Japanese handling was bril...

Re: Would one go back to airline flying?

I never flew commercial and never flew at the pointy end of Ascot Airways but, when the writing was on the wall in the 90s, I did give it some serious consideration. Spoke to mates who had gone down that route. Sifted through their bullshit (people don't like to admit mistakes), did the numbers etc,...

Father's! Where would we be without them? Mine is 96 and still around and in remarkable good health. He started flying training in 1942 and finished a military flying career in 1970 completing some 6000 hours military flying. Has a couple of gongs but is a modest, unassuming guy. I love him madly. Bungit pie. Bung the leftovers from the Sunday roast in the slow cooker. Bung in carrots, onion, garlic, oyster sauce, peas, sweetcorn and anything else you need rid of. Leave in slow cooker for a few hours. Bung in pie dish. Cover with pastry. Bung in oven for about 30 mins. Serve with creamy, butt...

The Hummingbird restaurant at Shoreham changed hands and now serves some excellent, reasonably priced grub. Scores highly on Trip Advisor I note.
