Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Not long back from a lovely family lunch with my father, his latest wife and both my sisters in celebration of his 99th birthday. He is still in good form, lives independently and doesn't use a stick. He regaled us with an hilarious story about a dead stick landing at a civil airport. in a Spitfire ...

Re: The New Football Thread
Can't believe that there has been such media criticism about the decision of the Qarari authorities banning sale of beere in stadia during marches. Beer sales are banned in stadia in England. It was Budweiser anyway so probably doing fans a favour. Award for idiot of the tournament ,(so far) the Eng...

Twas indeed! The Treat of Paris confirmed American independence and its borders, fishing rights etc. Indeed the date has a claim as Independence Day as does 2 July but for other reasons.
You have control, sir.

On car tyres in sand, snow and ice: Sand: In the sandpit I had an old and battered Jeep Wrangler fitted with a roll cage and Desert Dueller tyres which was used for dune bashing and longer camping trips. I'd drop the tyre pressure down to about 15 psi on sand and it was fine. A problem arises in wad...

C16: In my case I was 16 and three of headed out to La Linea and were greeted with the same cry. It took a few cervezas for us to pluck up courage to go to a back room where a couple of ladies of the night (middle aged slags, one fat, one skinny who took a pee in the bucket in the corner of the room...

On the damage caused to the Kerch Bridge. I am surprised that UUVs (Unmanned Underwater Vehicles) have not been mentioned as a possibility. The Remus for UUVs family manufactures by hii , has been in RN service for many years as well as being sold around the World in various forms in the civilian ma...

As a 15 or 16 year old, I used to sit on the officer's beach at North Front, Gibraltar looking out over the bay towards Spain. My father was a Captain on 37 Sqn flying Mk 2 Shacklebombers with the tailwheel. This was just at the time the Spanish set up the conditions and restricted border access thi...

When we lived full time in the Philippines we had a small native dog, Blackie, who might have been better called 'Riki Tiki Tavi' of Jungle Book fame. She took great delight in killing any snake found in the garden. About the size of a skinny Corgi but with long legs. I once saw her battle it out wi...

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war
I'm beginning to feel slightly sorry for the average Russian grunt who is caught between a rock and a hard place. (Not too sorry , mind you but I do have sympathy for his situation). The cream of the Russian forces received a mauling during the attack on Kylv. In February Ukraine mobilised. They cal...

I'm pretty sure Andrew actually made it to Commander although may have been acting. Seems reasonable to me that he be allowed to wear the uniform and the rank he rose to in the Service.

Indeed Fox3. Very quiet. Even the FIRMS map has been unusually quiet over the last few days.

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war
Many, many interesting developments. A personal thanks to Fox 3 for his regular updates. Now that the Ukes are at the Russian border they are within artillery range of Belgorod, reportedly the major Russian logistics hub supporting their war and thus, in my view, making its infrastructure and vehicl...
