Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Evening all, good weekend at the dog show. Faraday showed as a veteran (7+ years of age) and got a bunch of pretty pink ribbons in addition to the others, plus a round of applause as she ran round the ring (tradition is to applaud the old dogs). She also ran FastCAT and got her FCAT5 title on Friday...

Re: Chaos in USA

Methinks Thatcher's truism is going to be hitting them right between the eyes before 2028, and probably a lot sooner if Trump gets in. The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. There's another side to it. In Canada, Saskatchewan has just stopped paying the C...

Re: Chaos in USA

Now that Trump has apparently failed to raise his bond money, the MAGA crowd may be about to cost him bigly. Scenario: NY seizes a property to auction. Threats are made against potential buyers and the post-sale property, which depresses interest and so it sells for a lower price. Then the state has...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Trip to the vet today. All three dogs and two cats, so I added the extra dog crate to the van and we took that. Kepler had a blood draw for her cancer vaccine trial, the other dogs needed rabies and other jabs, as did one of the cats. The other was just in for a check-up. There was a Tesla Cybertruc...

Re: Rubbish!

We have something called Bin Assist provided by our caring council, it is for old folk and disabled people who have difficulty with the bins. My neighbour and I live down a private drive about 400 yards long so we have to drag our bins to the road side every Sunday tea time ready for Monday. Bin As...

But who the hell would want to buy it? It's a black hole.
Not if they can convert it to the American model where they can charge 10x the price, and there's an entire industry (health insurance) set up as a middleman to siphon off even more from the population.

And submarines don't have balconies or open windows, so he's safe for now. Until tea time, at least, or if it starts to rain and he needs an umbrella.
In general, if it's seriously raining in a submarine then an umbrella is going to be the least of his worries.

Whilst they'll get hammered now, he must think they'll get slaughtered later. My UK politics teacher friend reckons there's a possibility Labour isn't ready for a snap election, and that's possibly the motivator, if it's happening. I suspect the people are ready for a snap election, although I'm su...

Re: United Max Gear Collapse at IAH

I was looking at the map in Juan's video, and would have thought it would make more sense to take the high-speed taxiway immediately preceding the end - at least that way they could have existed safely at speed and then slowed down. And if they'd still screwed up the subsequent sharper turn, at leas...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Evening all. Recovering from the first day of summer time. Got to see it happen, too - Kepler woke me up at about 01:57, so I watched the clock tick over from 01:59 to 03:00. (Anyone else have a bedside clock that runs Linux?) Took Cassini out to a flea market this morning (hence having to get up), ...

Re: Chaos in Scotland.

The danger comes when people decide that if the police are going to do nothing, they'll do it themselves. Vigilantes will mete out summary justice if they think it is the only way to bring perps to account. They might even get the right one occasionally.

Morning all, waiting to be picked up & taken home. Feeling so much better now. Thank you all for your wishes while I've been crook. The last time I was ill was 2020, and I had forgotten what a bugger it is. I haven't got time to be ill. Except that now I'm getting older I have more frequent visits ...

Replaced the van battery today. A little bit more effort than your usual job because it's under the driver's seat. Extracted the old one, took it to the local parts store, brought the new one home and managed to make it all fit. Also got to use my little saver gadget - use with an external 12V batte...

Re: United Max Gear Collapse at IAH

I wouldn't necessarily blame this one on Boeing. Any aircraft at speed hitting soft ground like that would probably do nasty things to the gear.

I guess if they skidded due to brakes locking up or other mechanical thing then yes, it's back on Boeing.

The flight — which was initially carrying 235 customers, 10 flight attendants and four pilots for a total 249 people on board — was headed to Osaka International Airport, the FAA said.
Did some of them jump out en-route?
