Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war

Agreed Rossian, especially in the big cities, where several flats called Khrushchevskas (and therefore families), shared bathrooms and kitchens. I did see one once, just before it was about to be demolished (which I think they all have been now), and it was surprising how small they were. Yuzhno Sak...

Re: The Queen's Flight

The company that John Hill used, https://planearts.com/about-us/?v=79cba1185463 is also the one I used for my LIAT model. None of them are cheap, and they are hand-made. I asked several UK companies for quotes and they were astronomical. Plane Arts are meticulous about colour schemes and other detai...

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war

Speaking of one-room flats, this is the scene inside a Russian flat, following the attack on the ammo dump at Torpoets. From this, it will be apparent why so many people fall out of windows. Some have suggested that the ceiling is mirrored, but I think this is far too sophisticated, and is perhaps s...

Re: Baltimore bridge collapse

Jeez. Like Murphy puts it: "There's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do it over." Just the cost... what happened to the Costa-Lotta captain, btw? The one who sank his ship and 'organised' evacuation from the shore? (Costa Concordia, was it?) Still doing his 16 years in prigione...

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war

That video statement by Dumb, Dumber and Dumber Still, is straight out of the USSR handbook for emergency situations. I heard and saw such statements in the old days, when something bad had happened. The fire in the Rossiya Hotel being one I remember well. I have heard that the TV talking heads in M...

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war

I think part of the problem lies with the fact that now Western condoms, which are generally reliable, are easily available, there are not as many babies as before. In the early post-Soviet era, only Russian-made condoms were available which, rather like their battlefield equipment, were less than r...

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war

I am hearing that restaurants are adding 10% to bills, not for a service charge, but apparently to cover the slow but steady devaluation of the rouble. Given that, despite its size, Russia imports huge amounts of food, this will not be going down well with the populace.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI

Electric scooters should be banned from the planet. :-bd I gather that a number of councils in the UK are looking seriously at banning them from their streets. I have lost count of the number I have seen abandoned on the pavements (or are we supposed to call them footways nowadays?) when I am out a...

I must say, John, that I was very impressed with the LIAT one they did for me. Very detailed and completely accurate.

Re: Passengers Behaving Badly

Good on them. We need more of that in the UK, where currently, barely a week goes by without some major incident or other. Make them pay, and if they don't, send the bailiffs in, and if they've got nowt, give them some paid work to do until they've paid off the fine. Sooner or later, one of these in...

Morning folks, bit cloudy. Invited out for lunch today. Sword fish and chips I think.
mmmmm, one is very partial to a swordfish steak, especially when it's cooked in garlic butter.

Re: Having a Whale of a Time at Woody's Place

Of course it goes into Hawarden/Broughton/Chester several times a week, but our southern-based media would not have noticed that. I assume it must have had a complete wing set on board, probably to replace one on a BA aircraft that was damaged a couple of months ago. I (and no doubt the crew) are g...
