Re: Stiga ride on lawnmower
"Keeling over... snow". Perhaps that is not such a bad way to go, although, for me, not yet pleae. My parents died younger than me, father blue asbestos related cancer and mother stroke, but quick and not uncomfortable deaths. Wifes's parents are not so simple. Father is in an old folks home, OK, no...

Re: Stiga ride on lawnmower
G-C The grass here is not your English lawn, it can, perhaps, be described as green forest bottom with seed thrown at it masquerading as a lawn. The growing season is quite short. F3 Likewise, the wind takes the clippings away and I usually mulch the leaves on the ground as the last cutting, if it h...

Re: Stiga ride on lawnmower
Snowblowing is not neccessary as the local "friendly farmer" ploughs the snow from the drive and pushes it into the forest across the road. He also ploughs the local roads. A small walk behind blower would be ideal for paths to the log shed, back doors etc., but I have managed to do those with snow ...

Stiga ride on lawnmower
My current lawnmower (Partner) is approaching 25 years old and, although I seem (with more difficuty each year) to be able to keep it going, I feel it will need replacing in the next few years. I am 78 this year and my idea is to replace it now as it will probably be the last "ride on" I will need i...

Re: Massive Airports Coming to a Desert Nowhere Near You
Lg. You are a bit younger than me but I was on one of the first BOAC crews to stay in the Gulf Hotel in Bahrein. We stayed at the BOAC rest house before. The Carlton, in Dubai, was the hotel, with an iron bedstead and one of those long electric cords with a barrel switch on the lower end above. Mona...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
The testing man, who said it was broken, was wrong, despite there being no warning light or fault thrown up by the fault reader. The Finnish word for "broken" was used and not "out of alignment". Finnish has fewer words than some languages but these concepts do have different words. I wonder how he ...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Sadly, or not, but it suits me, I am one of those sad? chaps that clears cookies when I log out. +25 expected today, doesn't happen very often, so I have cleaned the a/c filter. We have a/c in the master bedroom, for hot nights!! Newer (2011) Freelander failed the inspection yesterday, xenon levelli...

Thought I had better sign in, to help lg's statistics!!
25% more members now, I assume.
I can't stay, other things to do, but will not logout (don't know if that is possible, but I expect it is).

It seems to be still there, The Ostrich in/near Colnbrook was a favorite of mine.
Haven't been there for at least 20 years.
They did a very good platter of whitebait.

Re: The totally-totally non-political show of all times: 'united by music' - Eurovision song contest!
A bit of a show about an hour ago, but nothing like yesterday.
Inside for a bit of warmth, it is +2 outside and I am somewhat cold.
Time for bed, said Zebedee (with apologies to " the magic roundabout").

Re: The totally-totally non-political show of all times: 'united by music' - Eurovision song contest!
I was going to say something about Eurovision, the only thing to watch, tonight, on Finnish tv, if you are not an ice hockey fan. I have decided that, perhaps, I should not comment, after several glasses of "vino collapso". Ah, it is the trouserless Finnish entry!! It is now dark enough to sit outsi...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
There are many pictures on the net but I will send my best.
It does not get completely dark here even at local mean midnight, so the contrast is not that good.

Re: Flying opportunity, DC3?
First time this year, I saw the DC3, that offers a similar experience here, flying an approach to Helsinki, Vantaa, yesterday.
Possibly doing crew training/annual renewals.
Normally it goes over my house but 22L is currently being resurfaced.

Re: The Cook Islands
I went there in the late 70s when I was on the ANZ DC10, with BA. ANZ used to have a service that routed AKL-RAR-HNL once? a week and I think they were the only operator to Raro. Iirc I think we stayed at a hotel called the Rarotongan, lovely place. Very unspoilt then but I imagine it is just anothe...

The price of copper?
Two chaps, an off road capable cherry picker, and an empty cable drum on a lorry turned up on my drive this morning. They proceeded to remove the obsolete (Finland does not use fixed line telephones any more, maybe in towns?) overhead telephone cabling, wound it onto the drum and took it away. The, ...

ISAs
I am sure someone, OFSO?, knows the answer as I need some help understanding the rules around ISAs. I have read several web pages, including gov.uk, and have found it somewhat confusing. I invested the maximum, £20k, in the 2023/24 tax year, and it is still invested, in a cash isa. Can I now put ano...
