Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war

I note a report of Russians welding a sheet metal roof and sides onto tanks ("Turtle Tanks") to protect them from munitions descending laterally or vertically. However the front is left wide open to provide visibility to crew and turret gun access, and I think also the rear for engine cooling. It oc...

It's worthy of note that the lovely Greta Turdberg eschews the use of adhesives, preferring to by picked up and carted away by smiling police officers.
But yes, a landing 380 would go wonders for any protesters wanting publicity.

We had to look that route up, Talma, we are normally on the 281. I thought I might see one of the famous new Paris electric buses on fire yesterday but no luck.

This weekend's Financial Times has an article on the surge in recruitment of former technicians and engineers specialising in nuclear power generation - thousands are needed - as many countries revive plans to build new generators of clean power. All except one European country of course, suffering ...

Re: Fat Cat

Noticed that Marlene is moulting so got an old shoe brush and gave her a good brushing. She loves it, purr purr purr, even rolling over to have her belly done. May have been a remnant of shoe polish on the brush, as she's a glossy black panther now.

Massive power failure. Area ? Network ? Train halted miles from anywhere for two hours. Power went off no lights, no a/c and no internet. Increasingly depressing announcements but suddenly moving again and arrived at brand new station of Nîmes Pont du Gard. Now almost home. Fingers crossed.

Re: Chaos in France

Must say that in the past 48 hours I saw very few police in Paris, far fewer than in London where these days armed police are not unusual. The International Government Establishment where I work in Paris has built a separate screening office inside the main entrance. Invitation (by e-mail after secu...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI

On the subject of easy or not deaths, mentioned elsewhere. A colleague, Tony, had a mild heart attack just before Christmas. He was released from hospital, seemingly recovered. On Christmas Day the whole large family enjoyed the usual festive lunch and Tony was at his best, laughing and chatting. At...
