Re: WTF is happening in the UK?

Campaigners are calling for Punch and Judy shows to be scrapped due to racist undertones and scenes of domestic violence. The slapstick puppet show traditionally sees the character of Mr Punch act in an unruly way to his wife Judy, as well as their baby and various other characters, including a poli...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

An airline ripoff. I checked in for a LH flight BOM - FRA and the check in girl asked me if I wanted an upgrade to F (I was booked in C) in exchange for FF Miles and/or cash. As it's a relatively short flight I wasn't going to take it unless it was dirt cheap. I don't remember what the amount was bu...

Re: Write your own Daily Mail aviation incident drama

The whole thing is a complete and utter load of horseshit. “A couple of times it shook dangerously, which panicked passengers – especially the elderly who lost their balance despite having seatbelts on.” Really? I would question whether the writer has even seen an aeroplane let alone been on one. Al...

Just to confirm that you are of course both correct. I thought it was rather lovely.
It's an Amur (Siberian) Tiger.
Transaero became Rossiya, or v.v. I forget which way round.

The word black may be expunged from the dictionary when referring to people, they will be called 'heavily pigmented' or some such crap.

Re: The Smokin' Hot Where On Earth Thread Mk III

Without checking to see if BA flew to SJO, I'd guess Costa Rica. Their number plates had the same 6 digit format. We had a lovely holiday there in about 1992, it was our first long distance trip together. The worst part of the trip was flying on bloody Iberia via Santo Domingo and on the way back we...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

Garage crooks. When I was in my 20s my mother had a Morris 1100 (I think) about 3 years old. Ghastly car. I suppose my father was away, otherwise I wouldn't have been involved as he did all the maintenance stuff. She told me it was difficult starting it, specially from cold so I diagnosed a failing ...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.

I have been watching Bill Nighy's Great Railway Journeys series. Great actor, but it really pisses me off that he mispronounces just about every place name he mentions. It grated on me on the ZA Rovos Rail one, I know some of the native language and Afrikaans names are difficult for an English speak...

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?

From my airline days, it is an offence to depart from a country without the necessary documentation for entry into the country of destination.
We had people arrested for attempting travel on forged visas or passports.

I do wish the press would refer to them as what they are, illegal/clandestine immigrants, or invaders.

They give genuine immigrants a bad name.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

I went to the Lake District for a few days and it wasn't raining ... for at least half an hour. The Speedo cable on my SAAB broke. I rang around, found this garage in the middle of nowhere. That sounds like Turners Hill Saab near LGW. The Saab was the best but most troublesome car I've ever owned. T...

Re: Stranded in Nigeria

I can't blame them for that, other than going to a pseudo Irish pub. I have been to four so-called Irish pubs, in Moscow, Cuzco, Zurich and Barcelona, they were all bloody awful. None of the staff spoke more than very rudimentary English, and apart from serving Guiness and having a few tawdry plasti...

Re: Stranded in Nigeria

The staff of the British Consulate in CPT acted as if they were the last outpost of the Empire. Those in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam were not much better. For the sake of accuracy, the last two were HCs. At the other end of the extreme, the people in Santiago (Chile) and Leningrad were very helpful an...

Re: Trivia Question of the Day

I don't know the reasons they chose the livery but the country of origin does have indigenous tigers. I came across the picture purely by chance and thought it was rather striking. So, the airline!
