Re: Happy Christmas!
Love and peace to all you lot. Not long home after celebrating the Holy Mysteries and listening to a select number of whinges from people who only come on Christmas Eve. I think I'll get a card to hand out next Christmas saying something like "I'd be happy to discuss this on an ordinary Sunday after...

The A48 just North of Chepstow has also been a bit sticky over the weekend. A tanker carrying glucose hit a railway bridge on Saturday. Efforts to clean the road took 3 days. Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Did one of those medium-sad funerals today. Deceased was 100; survived to get a letter from the King (did a bit of a Hmmph, I gather: would have preferred one from the proper monarch) but left only seven survivors including a 2-yr-old granddaughter. And two dogs who came to the crematorium. Crem ass...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Yesterday was the big day of the year... family visit: house bulging at seams, out to a meal for 12. Today supposed to be quiet. Nope. AV system played up in church: Jim (alleged day off) running about, swearing and sweating; extremely 'active' 5-yr-old first-time visitor; Mrs Jim engaged to deal. E...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Gave house fairy her box of chocolates; she gave me a little plate of home-made baking - some fudgy bits, some 'rocky road' type confection, a muffin, piece of carrot cake, piece of Christmas cake. Very kind of her and much appreciated. I have et the latter and a piece or two of the confection but ...

Buongiorno on the feast day of Santa Lucia. Feeling much better today, think I had become dehydrated in Monday's warmth. Seems to be something I'm sensitive to. Don't have a sweet tooth at all but this morning having a teaspoonful of sugar in my cup of tea :YMPARTY: which I do once or twice a year ...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Unchuffed, I am.
Had to spend money on the car today outside MOT and annual servicing and tyres and windscreen wipers.
£200 it was (yes, £200!!!) Needed new brake discs and pads. Only had it for ten years.
What's the world coming to?

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Oh, easy and boring. Sound board cracked, Iron frame loose. As soon as you tuned the notes at one end of the piano the stuff at the other end went out of tune. The woodrot stank, too.Pinky the pilot wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 2:23 amA good laugh, Jimtherev.
But may one enquire as to just why you had to dispose of the Grand Piano?

Takes the form of a series of letters written by earnest parishioners to their vicar regarding the theme and content of the church decorations for Christmas. It appears in the antholog...

Re: Friday Jokes
All sorts of things happened in the Met Pol back in the day - still naughty, but not as sinister as seems to be happening now, it seems. An old sweat told me of a lucrative beat he had when based at Southwark. At the time, the opening of Tower Bridge was signalled by a bell, 5 minutes before the off...

. and I have to admit, the way I got rid of that grand piano was positively evil. Tell us more, Jimtherev. After all, confession is good for the Soul, don'tcha know. :D Yes, and of course it will remain sacrosanctly private... Sorry - really can't say, as there are still members of the donor family...

Re: When it's just the 2 of you...
Since we both have itchy feet and are always dashing about, Mrs Jim and I try to make 7:00 p.m. a time when we actually sit down together: a fixed point in the day when we actually look at one another and TALK. Tablecloth, place mats, white linen napkins. (My napkin ring has been the property of the...

I have asked for a date for the funeral which, if normal Spanish practice is followed, will not be long. A short hold is possible to allow those who need to travel, his son for example, to attend. If possible I intend to go and will give Kath hard copy of your condolences, an e-mail does not seem t...

Fox3: If there's one thing that holds Britain back as an industrial nation, it's the NIH (Not Invented Here) syndrome. I've seen it more times than I can remember. The responsible person doesn't want to think that someone below them can have the brains to come up with a new idea, coupled with the t...

Earlier this week, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said his leadership team wouldn’t whip the vote one way or the other, instead allowing members to “vote their conscience.” But moments before the vote, he, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer and GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik,...
