Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

B*gger! Boiler has failed again, and just before this part of the world is going to get somewhat colder. And just after spending a not insignificant sum on a new oil tank. Between us, a boiler technician and myself, by a process of elimination and a succession of blown fuses, we have narrowed things...

Re: Mr Bates versus The Post Office

I think the whole episode highlights the state of the so called British justice system. If you are accused of something you basically have to prove your innocence which is often almost impossible, so you are 'advised' to plead guilty to get a lesser sentence. As was the case for many of the sub-post...

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

talmacapt is correct, it is Dartmouth. I believe the station was constructed in anticipation that the railway would be built to it, this never happened, the railway is on the other side of the river Dart, runs from Paignton and terminates at Kingswear.

OH has been declared.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread

I should have realised that there were some of our community who would have intimate knowledge of this location, having spent time at the establishment up the hill. And, yes, the building can 'see' a train, but only across the river!

And now for something completely different...

A railway station that never saw a train.

Re: Taking aircraft under bridges

My mother, a Wren Bomb Range Marker CPO, during WWII, said she had been over the Forth Bridge (Scotland) in a train and an aircraft, and under it in a boat and an aircraft. A Swordfish I believe and she also stated the pilot faced a court martial for it!

The Vines pub, Lime St, Liverpool.

Worked in Liverpool a few years ago and lived in Alexandra Tower, on the river frontage, but never managed to visit said pub. Went to a lot of others though!

Re: HM Queen Elizabeth

Whatever anyone thinks of our monarchy, surely all sane people must realise that, if we dispensed with them and adopted some form of rebublicanism, all we would end up with is even more politicians! No one in their right mind should be wishing for that. Our current monarchy have little real power .....

Happies to all from me at the, very windy, eastern edge of the known world.
Tomorrow will be busy for me as I cook for all my immediate family who will be with us for the day.
