Re: Looking for a cheap simple 4G candy bar

My wife's parents, both in their 80s, have Doro phones.

I assume they do them in UK.

They are ideal, nothing fancy and big keys, ideal for seniors.

They are some of the cheaper offerings in Finland.

Re: Trivia Question of the Day

Llondel, a definitely "not correct" then to your suggestion. If what you say is true, I trust he is removed from his post. I will give it to Opsboi as he is on the right track. Apparently murder can only be tried by, what are called, "ticketed" circuit Judges (they may now be called district judges?...

Re: Trivia Question of the Day

Sorry for the delay, much to do today.

No to Opsboi but "certain issues" could be construed as a clue.

Llondel, probably no, as it is, I think, specific to the English legal system (possibly including those countries that follow it).

Tell me more about why you suggest Clarence Thomas.

Re: Trivia Question of the Day

What is a ticketed judge.

No, I don't mean one who has been speeding!!

It came up in a detective story I am currently reading.

In fact, I may be wrong.

I didn't add daily to the query and there is a possible different answer, someone else can have a go.

Re: Trivia Question of the Day

The London Gazette, which I thought, as it was the answer to a pub quiz a few years back.

I looked it up on google, to check, and apparently, it was originally The Oxford Gazette, first published in 1665.

It became The London Gazette and was first published as such in 1666.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Limey. Many years ago I gave away a young (younger than me anyhow) English lady (her father had died) to an american on the beach in Treasure Cays. She had lived above me in Meaux in France (think brie). They then went and lived in Florida. There was a connection with flying including LGW and a comm...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Question for T15. I had always thought JV was a series 2B but Aviation Safety seems to think it was a 2A. Maybe it was reworked at some point in it's life. Can't remember the differences but, iirc, the 2Bs had static invertors whereas the 2As had rotary? invertors (a definite improvement). Busy morn...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Danair were certainly flying the 748s in the 80s. I left the BA 748 in 1988 and we had at least 3/4 Danair 748s on lease. G-ATMJ, AZSU, BFLL and occasionally ATMI (maintenance replacement) if I remember correctly. Dan certainly used them to Scatsta, from Aberdeen, and I think there was a service fro...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Read today that the world warmed up a lot in the last year. It was -25 here this morning, -15 now, and forecast to be colder tomorrow. Talmacapt towers north recorded -35 last night and may go below -40 tonight. Much the same every year, perhaps this warming is due to the hot air spouting from polit...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

That is just not any church, that is St Magnus Cathedral.

Seeing the snow has reminded me of brushing it off the wings of the 748 one morning at Grimsetter.

Was glad snow didn't happen often in the Orkneys.

Re post 328 and roads used as airfields. The Finnish Authorities have promulgated that a section of the E75 road (main road from south to north of Finland) north of Lahti will be closed, to vehicular traffic, for several days later in the month. It is being used as an airfield. There may be other cl...

Re: Chaos in USA

Two points from me about the US election. How a country with umpty million people cannot find at least one candidate other than Biden and/or Trump amazes me. The Finnish (about 4 million voters) presidential election had, at the initial round 9 candidates, 5 no hopers and 3/4 with a chance. I, as a ...

See them, from time to time, in my forest and occasionally in the garden.

Ricardian. Thanks for that, I had assumed that, as one cannot access bbc iplayer (yes, I know there are workarounds) here, I could not receive live radio. You caused me to look more carefully at the BBC site and I see that I can, in fact, listen to it. When I lived in UK, one of the delights was Wor...

Makes me smile and we will see if the beeb read these pages.

Today is election day for a new President of Finland.

The current one's term expires after 12 years (2x6years is max).

The BBC has nothing on it's European pages about it as at 1400 local.
