Re: The Smokin' Hot Where On Earth Thread Mk III

I think it may be the roundabout in Long Beach, where the lady who was driving ignored the fact that it was a roundabout.
Don't know the names of the streets concerned, though.

Re: The BBC.

I totally agree. Not only that, but they show athletics all day (when it's not snooker), and neither attract much in the way of spectatorship - the athletics stadia are invariably half empty. The sports which are worth watching are all on Sky or BT anyway, which people seem happy to pay for, so why ...

However, there doesn't seem to be any infrastructure behind it, so maybe it's an ex-railway station.

Re: Antisemitism.

I repeat a post I made almost a year ago : I recently had some postings I'd made removed from a business travel forum, for stating that the TLV routes are about the most unpopular with airline staff and crews due to the characteristics and behaviour of many of the passengers on that route. Apparent...

Artnoon all.
I think this might be the SS Rogaland, berthed in Stavanger, Norweay.
I think you might be right! Interesting history connected to that ship.

Yes, there is a ship very similar to this at the Vasa museum in Stockholm, but this isn't it. Vaguely Nordic may lead you there.
Yes, that was my first thought! Torshavn, Faroes?

Tramp! :) Not you om, the ship. Looks like an example which traversed the Indian Ocean in its' day. Looks like there was some passenger accommodation around the stern. It's clearly been preserved and the background buildings look vaguely Nordic to me, though it's not Stockholm.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

G-CPTN I have fond memories of the Indian restaurant from the days when I lived in the area. Has it re-opened? I know we lost the pub where I used to stay (in Ovingham) as the result of (I think) Desmond. The Indian restaurant re-opened after six months and the pub at Ovingham is finally being work...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV

Yesterday we had a flood (courtesy of Storm Ciara). Early morning predictions were that it would equal Storm Desmond (which devastated 40 dwellings, the pub and the Indian restaurant for many months). One of the Desmond events was the relocation of a skip from the cemetery over several fences and a...

I am reliably informed that this has not been photoshopped, but you have to wonder how the hell stuff like this is allowed on daytime TV in the UK.

Not far off FD2 but I think it's Bunratty Castle near Shannon. When I lived in Ireland in the 70's I went to a medieval banquet there. Great fun.

OH if confirmed.
Me too, though in the 80s in my case. An excellent night out!

Re: The Smokin' Hot Where On Earth Thread Mk III

Thinking about it,it looks a bit Gaudiesque (if there is such a word). Tall palm tree in the background, so presumably southern Europe. The Spanish are fond of follys anyway, so are we in Barcelona?

Re: Why Dubai is so vile, despicable, and reprehensible

What will happen to all those artificial little islands heavily developed with luxury buildings when the sea-level rises by a metre or so?! :-\ My understanding, based on what I have been told by expats who live there, is that many of those luxury properties are unoccupied, but willing to stand cor...

Re: Just when you think you have seen/heard it all.......

Some years ago I was working as a dispatcher at EMA. One of the companies we handled was Britannia, (yes, it was that long ago!). The flight was going to one of the Turkish resort destinations - can't remember which one now. Two bags came out with RTD (Refer To Dispatcher) tags on them, so I contact...

Re: The Smokin' Hot Where On Earth Thread Mk III

You've all done very well! Yes, it's the train which ran the service to the Argentinian border at Encarnación. A wood-burning beast, built in Hunslet of all places. Somewhere I have a picture of the maker's plate. It used to run about twice a week. The old station (built by the British), sits in the...
