Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

No snow today, beautiful clear day.

Was -23 last night and did get to -20, for a hour, today but it is -24.4 now and dropping rapidly.

Forecast expecting zero tomorrow at 1800.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

With apologies to Henry Reed. Today we have clearing of snow Yesterday we had clearing of snow Tomorrow we will have clearing of snow. -8 and 5cm this morning and I have lost today's first skirmish. Cleared the neccessary paths and prepared the car for wife's father (in old folks home) visiting. Jus...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Yesterday was the first day, this year, that the sun came above the horizon throughout the whole of Finland.

For the bird lovers, I heard an owl last night and am hoping that my owl box does it stuff and we have babies for the fourth year running.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Very hot here, -7. It was very cold yesterday morning, -28, but warmed up during the day to about -15. Sadly "very hot" usually means it snows and I have spent several hours today moving the 19cm snow for the plough to take away. It is still snowing and not forecast to stop until about 2000. Will th...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

I am surprised that people have not heard of webastos, there are similar products made by other companies. It is a small diesel driven heater (I call it an apu, which it is not) whch, in my car, warms the engine coolant and the engine oil prior to start, thus making the engine easier to crank. It ru...

Re: A grave mistake

Fox re 328. I often drive along the road to the right (SE - NW) when going to talmatowers north. The last time (either late Sept or early Nov 2023) there were diversions, lasting about 10 days, as they were using it as an airfield whilst there was a large NATO exercise going on. Without trying too h...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Bit chilly this morning, -18.

Car cleared of late yesterday's snow but wipers welded to windscreen.

Webasto started, will go out and start car in about 15 minutes and that should free them.

Should have lifted them off the window yesterday.

Re: Can I be unbalanced ?

You have a problem, I would live with your solution for this winter and try to fix it when it gets warmer. What you need is a very long boroscope. It was -5 at 1600 yesterday and -20 at 2230 eventually getting to -22 from 0200 until 0500. Midday now and we are back to -7. My problem is the underfloo...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

You can tell me I have a dirty mind but I have just noticed, on fr24.com, that there is a place in Newfoundland called Dildo.

Has anyone ever been there?

Fox3 perhaps.

I went to Hell once.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Snowing since 0400 this morning, sort of stopped an hour ago. 15cm suitably cleared such that the snow plough man can move it out of the way. Was -8 when it started and -5 when it finished so not heavy, as in weight, snow. Sky now clear so temperature is starting to fall, forecast to be -19 tomorrow...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Apropos your comment, is it only the UK that has gravity fed water systems?

May be you can investigate replacing with a pressurised water system.

A friend of mine in Headcorn had such in his new build, so maybe they do do it in UK.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

BOAC. In my house the mains supply, from a 120m deep well, enters the house boundary below the expected ground freezing depth and rises in the cellar. There is a heating element in it, with, I presume, a frost stat of some description, to prevent freezing in the upper few metres. The floor is on blo...

Re: Can I be unbalanced ?

Is the balanced flue a newly installed system or has it worked for some time and now stopped drawing sufficient air? If it has started happening and nothing else has changed, I would start by ensuring that nothing is blocking the air-in tube (bird's nest, insect nest etc.). I can't, from what you de...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V

Rossian. Not so cold here, today, -6 but will be back to -23 tomorrow. When it gets warm, it snows and we had about 15cm this morning. Flying south later where it is +2 at the moment but will drop to -15 tomorrow and -25 is forecast for saturday morning. Re Brodie. In the 80s while based in Aberdeen...
