Commenting on my onetime experience as a Navigator, was recently interrupted by an aspiring PPL student, who took his eyes off his Smartphone for 10 seconds to say - What's a sextant ?

Apologies - I think this has been posted before ? but worth reminding ? Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the much older lady that she should bring her own grocery bags, because plastic bags are not good for the environment. The woman apologized to the young girl and explaine...

Probably cheaper to pay for the 240 V connection, estimated at some $20K at last count, and wire the door to the resultant 240 V supply ? I threatened to do that to an Avocado tree once, when I had called the Police after a massive theft of fruit. If you do we'll have you for setting a Man Trap, the...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
For many years I've had a small flashing red LED warning light visible on the door of my hangar, powered by 2xAA batteries, as no AC power is available for a "proper" burglar alarm at the remote location on the airfield, tho' some of my neighbours have invested in solar stuff, I kid myself that any ...

Packing thermals for my trip to Kent tomorrow. Don't need 'em downunda, nudging 35 C most of today, another 3 days of it forecast. Running out of water, water saving measures in force, no car washing - and we live at the end of a dusty road - laundry only essentials, paper picnic plates that can be...

Used to fly with a Capt who smoked a pipe Yes, I met the pipe smokers, and the cigar smokers, too. One advantage of being the Nav. was that one could pull up the curtain that shielded the Nav. desk from the rest of the flight deck light, and don the oxygen mask. ( On the Stratocruiser it was a whol...

I don't think that this kicker of leather balls had half an ounce of sense. Do any of them ? A certain kicker of leather married to a one-time member of an all-girl singing troupe, comes to mind. I know, no...

I thought it was going to say that the heat had melted the tarmac and that they had sunk into it. Queuing in a long line for take off out of JFK one night, with instructions to move up the taxyways in sequence, F/O handling, he complained that the aircraft wouldn't move as he advanced the throttles....
