Only wearing one glove today. The weather forecast says it's going to be cold, but on the other hand it may be warm.

Re: SpaceX
I thought they'd had something similar for the Shuttle, given its lack of other obvious escape mechanisms - down the line, take cover in a shelter and hope to survive the pressure wave of the blast.

Re: More Boeing Bad News
I always thought the big plus of a jet was the lack of moving parts. Just that one big spinny thing (occasionally two) in the middle, and a few valves. Chucking in a load of gears is just asking for more trouble, although I guess they're using the record of turbopros as a starting point for putting ...

Independent today: "Spending a lot of time on the computer may be linked to an increased risk of erectile dysfunction in men, researchers have said. A study of more than 200,000 men indicates that for every additional 1.2 hours spent using a computer, the chances of experiencing erectile dysfunctio...

A stingy old lawyer who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness was determined to prove wrong the saying, "You can't take it with you." After much thought and consideration, the man finally figured out how to take at least some of his money with him when he died. He instructed his wife to go to t...

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
The top speed is about 44kph/27mph (same as the guy in the video) on the level. I would not want to go faster anyway because of the brakes, but it is perfectly stable at this speed. I managed to exceed a 40mph speed limit on my bike some years ago. down the hill into the Stroud Valley on the A419. ...

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
I think the London Underground has had regenerative braking for a long time, way before it became fashionable for cars. A train coming into a station could dump energy back into the power rails. It had limited use originally, but it looks like they've had all sorts of upgrades in the last ten years ...

There's already a maglev train in Shanghai. Way more fun than taking a taxi from the airport. Once I'd figured that out on my first trip there, I used the maglev and metro network to get to my hotel on subsequent visits. It was cheaper than a taxi, too, and faster.

Evening all, good weekend at the dog show. Faraday showed as a veteran (7+ years of age) and got a bunch of pretty pink ribbons in addition to the others, plus a round of applause as she ran round the ring (tradition is to applaud the old dogs). She also ran FastCAT and got her FCAT5 title on Friday...

Re: Chaos in USA
Methinks Thatcher's truism is going to be hitting them right between the eyes before 2028, and probably a lot sooner if Trump gets in. The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. There's another side to it. In Canada, Saskatchewan has just stopped paying the C...

Re: Chaos in USA
Now that Trump has apparently failed to raise his bond money, the MAGA crowd may be about to cost him bigly. Scenario: NY seizes a property to auction. Threats are made against potential buyers and the post-sale property, which depresses interest and so it sells for a lower price. Then the state has...

Trip to the vet today. All three dogs and two cats, so I added the extra dog crate to the van and we took that. Kepler had a blood draw for her cancer vaccine trial, the other dogs needed rabies and other jabs, as did one of the cats. The other was just in for a check-up. There was a Tesla Cybertruc...
