Only just looked at this thread .... one trick here in NZ when calling the national Telecom provider, is to just keep rattling the zero key about 10 - 15 times, that immediately stops the computer and a human answers. Works for other sites as well, and if not then the worst thing that can happen is .. I'm sorry I didn't understand that, press 1 for .... etc. Nothing lost in trying.
There used to be a website called
http://www.getahuman.com - or similar, which gave the number, or numbers, to press for getting straight through to a human but it was only rigged for USA numbers, but it was a fairly comprehensive list of many USA companies. Doesn't stop the human putting you on hold for the duration of The Enigma Variations of course. No answer to that - tho"..... I wonder what might happen if one was able to send an earsplitting screech down the line ? Probably disconnect and have to start again ?
