Avoiding War in Europe

#1 Post by probes » Wed Aug 26, 2015 10:37 am

so, people - and not just people - are concerned.

The NATO-Russia Council should be urgently convened to discuss a possible Memorandum of Understanding between NATO and its partners and the Russian Federation on Rules of Behaviour for the Safety of Air and Maritime Encounters between the two sides.

The agreement would:
* Set out the principles and procedures of communication that should be observed during encounters between military vessels and aircraft;
* Require each side to give timely hazard warnings if military exercises and live weapons firing are to take place in a vicinity where military assets of the other side are operational;
* Commit each side to communicate in a timely fashion about the manoeuvring intentions of military vessels and military aircraft.

Avoiding War in Europe: How to Reduce the Risk of a Military Encounter Between Russia and NATO: http://www.europeanleadershipnetwork.or ... _3045.html

Does it sound reasonable?

Sounds like a psuedo European org trying to make itself relevant.

Agreements already exist between the contries and how to intercept aircraft And ships at sea.
Hence no low fly overs of Russian missile cruisers LOL

Every so often one side or the other gets cranky because something dangerous was done.

yeah, agreements exist, but who cares? Certainly not Vlad the Putin. So maybe it's a good thing a couple of ex-high-rank-officials are trying to be careful about war 'just happening'?

I suppose I was focusing on this part more than the others
"Set out the principles and procedures of communication that should be observed during encounters between military vessels and aircraft;"

And I doubt this group would have much influence on SOP's.

Might be an idea if POTUS had a chat with a psychiatrist who could advise him on how to deal with meglomaniacs. Sending F-22's to the borders of the EU is not the way to do it. At least, not sending them yet.

POTUS has a Nobel Peace Prize in his back pocket. He don't need no stinkin' psychiatrists to help. He knows how to make peace.

And re POTUS and his peace prize; I would still like someone more knowledgeable than I to explain in simple terms just how he could possibly be awarded the prize before he was even inaugurated! :-\ :-?

By all appearances 'For Not Being Dubya' during the pro BHO leftie frenzy at the time. Inadvertent revelation of the real worth of the peace prize was one of those unkind and unintended consequences.

And I think they have regretted it ever since for how it diminished the value of the prize and the word Nobel.

Well as far as I'm concerned, the word Nobel instantly makes me think of

Explosives, and Rifle and Pistol primers (of the Berdan variety)

Any connection to a Peace prize is no longer valid!

And fishing. Amazing how much you can catch with just one stick.

They should delete the name Nobel off that "reward" since it has nothing to do with the original intentions of Nobel himself.

Funny you should mention that:

Well, isn't that interesting. Not just what he said, but the reasons, that it was based on "hope".
First time I ever knew hope for future accomplishments was the basis for granting an award.

Can I use the term Dr. on the basis I ight get a PhD sometime in the future ????????

Also interesting was the comment that “Even many of Obama’s supporters
thought that the prize was a mistake,”. That says a lot.

Anyway, they diminished the prize now so it is too late, the horse has bolted.

Well, I must admit the EU Commissioners are taking a novel yet effective approach...There's no way Putin would want to invade a degenerate Caliphate full of lazy terrorists.

No, but is there a possibility he'd just insert a small tactical Nuke into their immediate vicinity?

Does it not suit his purposes if they self-destruct rather than any help being provided?

Depends what happens in Chechnya I guess - be easy to claim a small nuke was a suicide bomber who overdid the demo
