Fidel Castro

#1 Post by Capetonian » Sat Nov 26, 2016 6:05 am

Although I despise communism for the misery it inflicted on millions, and Cuba was no different, I always felt that unlike many other 'communists', Castro genuinely believed in 'la revolucion' and wasn't massively enriching himself at the expense of those whom he ruled.

Anyway, he's 'muerto', according to the media. Ironic that he should vrek of natural causes having survived many attempts by the CIA and Cuban exiles to kill him.

(As an aside, I was banned from a thread on TOP about Cuba for criticising communism!)

I see he was sworn in as PM of Cuba in 1959, so on the world stage for most of my life.
Remarkable figure in history.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

Not too sure about that - plenty of articles like this if you google - they can't all be BS.

A couple we met last night, who are serious travellers and have been all over the world, have recently been to Cuba. They said that a trip there would convince even the most avid supporter of communism/socialism that the idealogy is evil in the extreme, and how it wrecks a country and its people.

Castro also supported and fomented terrorist warfare in Southern Africa. An evil bastard.

Small wonder that there was dancing in the streets of Miami at the news of his death.

I see that Corbyn is snivelling off to the funeral of his Marxist pal Castro.
There would be some justice, not that I would wish it, in his needing hospitalisation in Cuba and seeing the reality of the infrastructure there, as it serves ordinary people, rather than the model that they show to the world.
It might an idea for him to spend some time on the island, and then route himself back via Pyongyang, to enjoy the real horror of totalitarian communism.
Who will join me in subsidising a refund on the return part of his ticket if he decides to stay there? I think it's pretty safe bet that he won't.

I have an acquaintance who thinks that the sun shines out of this charmless nurke's anal passage. There are thousands like her in the UK. Frightening, isn't it.

It's rare that one can be found willing to hand out their own money and property to those they wish to make dependant on the apparatus of state.

The Overseas Museum in Bremen once had a special exhibit devoted to Che Guevara and his wonderful deeds. Not a few German friends could not understand why I was rather unexcited about it, only visiting it once and not buying the tee-shirt. Yeah, call me Mr Grouchy about this guy who sent so many "To the wall!" in a series of show trials as he and Fidel were killing Cuba's future stone dead for what turned out to be over 50 years.

Brattleboro, Vermont about 45 years ago was a hotbed of progressivism, including a garage run by a crowd of far leftists. They would try to fix your car on the cheap, but you were expected to sit and watch Communist propaganda while you waited. I visited just to see what was up, when I was very happy to discuss the way that we had settled Che's hash, pointing out that this was the sort of thing that could happen. "Mess with the bull, you get the horn."

The commie hippies were really put out that the USA had come in on the side of the Bolivian government against this Cuban-sponsored Argentine. It was like shooting down Santa Claus for violating the ADIZ without a flight plan, the way they looked at it.
