Reminds me of how I once had to get from Vic Falls to Livingstone, a couple of miles via a then closed bridge.

Back when I was flying around Africa just about every strip had a local aero club on-site where you could get access to low-cost charters. Geez, an hour or two in a PA28 could save days trying to drive. Never mind the ubiquitous Cessna 172's. Remember boss ringing from Welkom down in the Vrystat to say his car was broken, needed to get back for important meeting. Suggested he go round to the aero club. He was back in Jo'burg within a couple of hours.

PS. Low-cost charters weren't always legit, but faster than walking. People always willing to fly anywhere if someone else foots the fuel bill and any other costs incurred.
