Bristol Britannia

I was wondering whether if there are any old Bristol Britannia pilots/maintenance/development bods lurking here and would they care to opine on the engine inlet icing issue I was reading about that was reputed never to have been completely cured during the aircraft's operational lifetime? Wikipedia claims two of the development aircraft were lost due to this cause but this was disputed, see quote and link!

Factual Errors[edit]
I hesitate to tamper with this excellent article, but a couple of minor things in the introduction need correction:
Firstly:
"Soon after production the turboprop engines proved susceptible to inlet icing and two prototypes were lost while solutions were found."

In fact, the icing problem was only found late in the development cycle, during tropical trials (in 1956?), and the prototype losses were not thus caused.

Here is an interesting clip on the hot and high testing done in Johannesburg +- 5700 feet QNH at ISA 25 degrees Celsius. Apparently the test went very well.
