My only regret was too much 10 second squirt and not enough wine but maybe Kiwi wine was not that good 45 years ago.

What amazed me was Ohakea. It was laid out exactly as a pre-war RAF station. The front of the mess faced North. The dining room at the rear on the side of the West wing. The bar were an anteroom would be front and East. Electrical sockets round pin 5/15 amp.

Our the front an emergency water tank misused as a swimming pool. Married quarters extending the the North on the left, tech site to the right. A number of buildings of wooden tongue and groove, just like UK WW2. Hangars same design. Bomb dump again sited on the edge of the perimeter.

It could have been air dropped as a package all the way from blighty.

In Palmerston North, loved the wide open boulevards and centre street parking.

I fly like an eagle. I am not a fearful man!

Reminds me of that Abba song mate...
He came flyin' from far away
Now I'm under his spells
I love hearing the sex jokes that he tells

He's flown copters beyond my land
And used Bendix horizons
He speaks Effrik but I understand

Caco dreams he's an eagle
And I dream I can drink and things...

Flying high, high
In a Cub in the sky
And my farts are no more than a breeze.
High, high
What a feeling to fly
Over Thailand and forests and seas
And to piss in my pants when I please

As all good friends we booze all night
And search porno on Bing
I have questions but he knows everything

There's no limit to what we drink
We yell higher and higher
Am I dreaming or are we on the brink...

Are you sure we are legal?
Don't you drink or you'll bend my wings!

Flying high, high
Drinking 'shine in the sky
I can guzzle the stuff with some cheese
High, high
"Caco...feel free to fly
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to beatup my house if you please."

And we're both bloody eagles
And I scream he do 'batic things..

As I'm high, high
I'm a drunk in the sky
I'm a pisstank that spills when I sneeze
High, high
Brain has started to fry
Caco flies over forests and trees
And I spew out the window with ease...

Slash all this pissing in pants and vomiting and stuff is going to wreak havoc with the interior of the cub. Better to leave that stuff until we land.

As for the eagle bit, I stole that from Gerald Durrell's arrogant Turk in My Family and Other Animals...
At length the Turk turned to Larry:

'You write, I believe?' he said with complete lack of interest.

Larry's eyes glittered. Mother, seeing the danger signs, rushed in quickly before he could reply.

'Yes, yes' she smiled, 'he writes away, day after day. Always tapping at the typewriter'

'I always feel that I could write superbly if I tried' remarked the Turk.

'Really?' said Mother. 'Yes, well, it's a gift I suppose, like so many things.'

'He swims well' remarked Margo, 'and he goes out terribly far'

'I have no fear' said the Turk modestly. 'I am a superb swimmer, so I have no fear. When I ride the horse, I have no fear, for I ride superbly. I can sail the boat magnificently in the typhoon without fear'

He sipped his tea delicately, regarding our awestruck faces with approval.

'You see' he went on, in case we had missed the point, 'you see, I am not a fearful man.”
I suppose I should be more like New Zealanders appear to be and be a bit more humble (except when they are playing rugby and then it is all false humility)! ;)))

Returning to the NZ aviation scene it seems to be very vibrant from afar, what with the active warbird , restoration and nostalgia scene going on there.
