I'll chuck in a Baffin; not sure what happened but I guess it is broken.......................

Pass on the ship but I say it is not a carrier. PS If it is a carrier then he landed a bit short........... :YMPARTY: )

Life on board in those days so relaxed that the right hand matelot had time to demo the hornpipe as he crossed the deck.
You are perfectly aligned Boac, needles crossed on short final and unlikely to crash onto the forecastle of the SS Normandie, like this rather careless Naval Lieutenant did in 1936...

Details of his Court Martial as reported by the press at the time...

I was too mean to buy the image so just click on, and then enlarge the image, on your screen to read the torrid tale of his trial...

Some more on Horsey…….. It appears that Horsey had 'form'. The Dundee Courier of 19 September 1935 reported that: (Quote) "'Guy Kennedy Horsey...was charged with having, on June 2, on the Milnathort-Cupar Road, while under the influence of drink, driven a motor car recklessly and at speed and in a manner which was dangerous to the public. Accused pleaded guilty, and Sheriff Umpherson imposed a fine of £10, with the alternative of 30 days' imprisonment.'

However that report does not convey the seriousness of what occurred. Earlier the Dundee Courier of 4 June 1935 had reported that whilst drunk and driving the car, Horsey collided with and killed two young motorcyclists, aged 17 and 18, who were members of the Sauchie Church Parish Boys' Brigade returning from a weekend camp at St Andrews. Horsey was then based at RAF Leuchars.

Thanks for posting that aviation-safety.net link C16, which answers all sorts of questions I had running around my head. It appears that Horsey managed to somewhat recover his reputation. The drink driving incident that killed those two poor motorcyclists, would have put him in prison for years if the case had been tried today.

Another week flies by, and another great story in Navy Wings appears...

I was interested by the account of flying at SISKIN.

I spent two weeks there in much the same period, the autumn of 1953, learning to fly the Tiger Moth. I recall the Development flight due to an incident one morning. Waiting to take off, in front of me was a Wyvern carrying a torpedo. The Pilot revered the a/c up and must have been about to take off the brakes. But at that moment the two top fasteners holding the engine parted. The engine hinged tidily on the two lower fasteners and landed nose down on the grass. No flames. What followed was like the keystone cops.

The Pilot (RAF) abandoned the aircraft hastily, Cdr (Air), or whoever held that post, rode to the scene across the grass on a bicycle and was soon followed by the Gosport fire brigade ringing their bell.

Earlier in the year whilst doing S/Lts Courses my lot were embarked in the Navigation training ship off the Gilkicker. The later Captain Tug Wilson hovered in a Dragonfly abreast the funnel/seaboat where we were waiting turns on the bridge. The tail rotor failed and the a/c rotated instead, whilst descending into the Solent. The OOW piped, correctly, away lifeboats crew, us SubLts beat the ship’s company manning seaboat and davits.

Twelve years later Tug Wilson was our Cdr (Air) in ALBION during Confrontation and flew me into Sarawak (and safely Back again!)

Plastic renewed membership card arrived, so I must have coughed up again... =)) Well worth it and good to hear that Navy WIngs has been given a grant of of £280,400 which will not buy a lot, but must be useful nonetheless as I was sorry to hear this...
The team are extremely disappointed that we had an engine issue during the Swordfish's third test flight. The engine has now been removed and sent to Retro Track and Air who are in the process of overhauling the other two Swordfish engines. We will keep you all updated on engines' progress in the coming months via our weekly newsletters.
Another pleasing picture as a balm for the soul.

Anyone know what 'tail warning' radar was fitted to the RN Buccaneers?
Odd shape in the one illustrated.

It isn't the shape it looked like in the 1st pic.
This is a little clearer.

Don't worry about it. The 1st pic showed a silhouette that gave me the wrong impression of its 3D shape.

A surprise from Mrs C16 from the Navy Wings shop - a 'Flew Navy' baseball cap and a 'Fly Navy' pint pot. I shall enjoy the latter but will look a bit of a tosser in the cap! Still, it's the thought that counts.

C16 - I can see lots of clothing with all sorts of slogans written on it, in the online shop, but can't think of an occasion when or where I could wear it! Even baseball caps leave the ears exposed, strictly against medical advice. Just an age thing I guess...but the glass mug looks good. I never use any of the old pewter tankards from squadron leaving presents though - they might taint the beer!

Was Eagle's Buccaneer squadron 800?

Yes, Eagle’s Buccaneer squadron was 800. My photo is of an Ark Royal 809 Squadron aircraft.

I don’t use my squadron pewter mugs either. Too much of a metallic taste.

As a senior pilot, a flying insignia cap, as long as it is not worn backwards, is not at all infra dig, in the right context C16. You should at least wear it around the garden in order to show your appreciation to Mrs C16. The fact that Dexter might laugh at you, is neither here nor there. You know what labradors are like! ;)))

And I thought it obvious he meant the two dialectic bullets on the tail plane.

Yes, RWR.
