In 1982, Capt Harry Ghee landed a Dash 7 on the 1,000m (3,200ft) Heron Quays (now part of the Canary Wharf development) to prove the concept of a short take-off and landing airport in London’s Docklands.

One question for those who know: On the docklands railway station close to the London City Airport there is commemorative plaque on the spot of the first landing in the docklands. However the runway is a distance away. So did they build two runways or the plaque is relocated?

I think the plaque was always where it is now. After all, if they put it on the threshold nobody would see it, even before it became coated in rubber !
