QF Farewell the 747

#1 Post by EA01 » Wed Jul 15, 2020 3:22 am

Drove down to Surfers Paradise beach today to watch the 'joy flight', farewell of QANTAS 747-438 (VH-OEJ),.... and what a sight it was! :) ....down the coast at 4000ft & a great arc around Northern New South Wales, before heading back up the coast @ 2000ft, and climbing away just north of me on it's return to BNE. :-bd

I recall many happy (though looong) Trans Pacific flights on QF's 747s. The first being BNE-TSV-HNL-LAX on a 'SP'. Other flights across the pacific in -200 'Combis', & finally the non-stop BNE-LAX flights on the -400s. ;)))

Funny thing was for all the people walking up & down the Esplanade, none seemed to notice this little part of Aviation history as it passed them by....

...and it occurred to me on the way home....the BNE 747s, if they weren't going to the U.S., more often than not they were going 'US'... =))

(It happened to me on more than one occasion!)

I was mentally reminiscing the many hours spent on the 747, when I realised that my last trip on one was with Iberia!

What a low point to go out on :( :-q
