J7 Submarine built around by Yacht Club
I was doing some searching the other day on google near where I used to live and dive and
I realised that the local yacht club had rebuilt all the walkways with concrete.
A J7 Submarine has been sunk here for years and I noticed they have enclosed it on 3 sides with concrete.
Information on the J7 Sub

We have quite a few subs sunk around Melbourne, some inside the bay and some outside the "heads"
which are used a dive locations. It is very eerie dropping down and seeing the dark outline of the
conning tower rising up to meet you.

Are people allowed to enclose such wrecks in this way in Australia? If so such a shame especially for enthusiastic divers who are also interested in history.

Only that one that I know of.
It is a bit shallow for "divers" as it is mostly out of the water and
was originally sunk as a breakwater.
In fact, looking at it now, it is MORE visible up close to people now than it ever was
because they have a walkway on 3 sides.
Also, we have a fair few submarines to dive on here in Melbourne as well as plenty of ships
so no shortage of dive sites.

Not as eerie as thinking of the 'whites' you have down there!

Yes, I see a diver died today after losing a leg or part of one.
It was said to be bigger than their 3 metre boat, which makes it over 10ft.
I'd call 10ft small.
