"And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again..."
My father's name was Jim, and my parents married in September 1939. He was in army training camp soon after and then overseas from 1943-46.
I think this song, and Dame Vera, were pretty special to my parents.
I've always admired her singing and spirit.

Melodic music, recognisable words, no shouting or gymnastics or guitars waved around like AK 47's.
Eat your heart out Bieber, Adele, Rhianna and the rest of them. Hope I can get the new album !

Re: Dame Vera Lynn scores a century, not out
The Vera Lynn clip brought back memories from sixty years ago. Mounted on the back of the dais behind Vera is a large facsimile of an RAF cap badge. And correctly so it has a Kings crown. My initial issue great coat was two sizes too big, and I was told to take it back to stores for a replacement. The one they gave me, whilst the correct size, still had Kings crown buttons. So they gave me a handfull of buttons and I was told to replacement them myself. Sixty years ago.

Re: Dame Vera Lynn scores a century, not out
It took the RAF a long time to change to Queens Crown buttons and badges.
The 16th Entry of Boys was the 1st after the death of George VI. 3 months after. Nothing that we were issued with reflected the new Monarch.
The cards that we read our oath from had been hand corrected to reflect the changes. The officer conducting the swearing in made many 'He, I mean She' stumbles through the proceedings.
If my unreliable memory is correct, the 1st new Queens Crown buttons were the anodised ones. I seem to have memories of buying some while I was at Lindholme, so this would date them between Apl 1954 & Oct 56.
Here is a photo dated June 1959, of our OC Wing Co. Mike Beetham meeting with Sir Alan Cobbham just before the 1st non-stop flight to South Africa.
The squadron badge clearly shows a Kings Crown 7 years after his demise.
