If not, I suggest you change browser.
I entered something directly into the address bar and pressed Enter. The screen immediately refreshed with a search bar Bing. Almost immediately it switched to Google.

I assume you are using 'EDGE'? It is only M$ fighting for its cornet.

Re: Another W10 thread...
Make plans.
You could find the reverse problem with software you use not working with XP as it gets updated or upgraded.
Re: Another W10 thread...
The answer is it depends on what you are doing with it and how secure you need any on-line activity to be - and we do not know. So - don't know, but good luck.ribrash wrote:Should I be worried ?

Just use it for internet, emails but don't do internet banking.Use AVG,Malwarebites and versions of Adblock plus.I would class myself as very low risk.Never had any trouble.

Re: Another W10 thread...
Well, I still have a Windows 95 disk somewhere. Want it?
Re: Another W10 thread...
I think I do too. I've also got an ME install disk, but I guess that's one of the things we don't talk about in polite company.
Re: Another W10 thread...
I have offered before - a set of 3.1 floppies. Just what some of you need

I had a Program called Powermenu. It listed 10 items, one click and that program opened. If you reserved a couple of lines they could open sub menues. One of two mouse clicks after the BAT file loaded it and you could open any program. Who had more than a dozen or so with a 40 mb hdd?

Re: Another W10 thread...
Well, I now have no machines in the house with W7 on - apart from Mrs Jim's old lappy which is going to Ebay as soon as I'm convinced that the hard drive is wiped.
My desktop install of W10 this afternoon went relatively smoothly, except that the wireless connection to the router didn't work. Fortunately, being a squirrel, I had an old a/b/n one in the junk pile; that will work until I get something better.
Oh, and AdBlock plus needs updating. Had forgotten how bad the advertising had got on TOP. I'll go off and do that in a minute. Byeeee.

Re: Another W10 thread...
Very difficult to do these days, without some specialist s/w.
Only really safe way, remove the hard drive and hit it many times with a large hammer.
Unfortunately this rather degrades the resale price of the PC.

I use a Program called Eraser (I think) it is Israeli which seems good provenance. Wiped my work computer down to C:/ then wiped the OS. My boss complained there was nothing on my computerjimtherev wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 11:27 pmWell, I now have no machines in the house with W7 on - apart from Mrs Jim's old lappy which is going to Ebay as soon as I'm convinced that the hard drive is wiped.

Re: Another W10 thread...
Comments about drive wiping are noted. Fortunately, neither of us uses our machines for financial transactions; it's just the Data Protection gods I'm pacifying by erasing the data.
Not got the software to hand; it's on a Western Digital CD somewhere, but it claims to write 0s and 1s all over the blank bits up to 7 times: that's going to be good enough for me.
And if anyone wants to go fishing on the drive after that, then they'll be pretty disappointed.
Oh, and got me wireless chip working again.

Re: Another W10 thread...
Cometerthinkofit, my worries about how efficient over-writing hard drives is are of course uncalled for. (How many uncalled-for and misplaced conjunctions there: what an ugly sentence!) I was reminded as I started the drive-wipe programme that a ddr hard drive has no residual magnetism on the disk for someone to find.. there is no disk.
Silly me.
