In view of WhatsApp being integrated with Farcebook, anyone any experience of alternatives?

I use Telegram. I ditched WhatsApp years ago within minutes of hearing that they were being bought by Facebook. I pretty much sent a message to everyone with whom I'd been talking to tell them I was quitting it and then deleted it.

I like Telegram because it seamlessly lets you use Desktop and mobile apps on the same account. I have several devices plumbed into mine so if I'm at my computer it's easy to use but if I'm out and about I can use my phone.

Viber. You can use it at your computer too even if the mobile is off or without an internet connection. Whatever you type on the computer appears on the mobile and vice versa. It offers encryption as well. I would say it offers the same functions as Telegram but maybe with more followers. Another advantage is that once a contact installs Viber you get a message and you can establish contact.

Signal is another app that I have downloaded but didn't use much.

Telegram tells me when someone in my contacts installs the app too. People I never realised were in my contact list have installed it.

AFAICS the new changes don't apply completely to users in Europe. Of course the major loss of privacy happened a few years ago when Farcebook bought WA.

Do they all accept images? While I could send an image by text that is not in my mobile package and costs.

In ZA virtually everyone uses WhatsApp all the time, not sure on a substitute system, any ideas from your contacts TGG?
When all else fails, read the instructions.

I've got both 'Telegram' & 'Signal' on my phone, and of my contacts that have signed up, most of them have gone for 'Telegram'.
