FireStick v. Fire TV

Does anyone have experience/opinion on the relative merits of the Firestick v. Fire TV? I have a series 1 Firestick which is labouring with the usual Firestick overheating issues, and I see the price of the latest 4k Firestick and Fire TV are very similar now.

Can't give you relative merits, but earlier this year I bought a Firestick (4k I think) as a present for a friend in CPT. His internet speed is not great, and neither of us is very technical, but we got it up and running in about half an hour and he is very happy with it.

Thanks, Cape

A little more research now indicates that the 'old' Fire TV box is no longer and the new 'Fire TV-cube' is significantly more expensive - so that really says 4k Firestick. Waiting now for the next Amazon Prime sale day!

Boac, they presently have a £49.95 device discounted to £39.95 but on Black Friday the discount was to £29.95. Not sure about the Fire Stick but we have a Gen 2, the voice one. I power it through the TV USB socket. Never a problem.

What channels do you get in ZA? Probably need to get some kind of streaming service as SATV aren’t the best stations :D

PN - does it not overheat and lose the wifi signal like the Series 1?

BOAC, never had a problem. Just checked, it is hand hot. It is plugged in to the HDMI socket on a short lead with a USB cable to the TV USB port. As it is hanging in space there is plenty of air circulation.

I have to admit I prefer neither stick nor TV to have any fire component whatsoever.

Did you know, you can even get a Kindle Fire Fire App?

Choice of logs or coal, sound effects and off timer.

BOAC, just had an email from Amazon, they have announced a Prime Day on 15/16 July with non-stop deals. If you are a Prime member this might be your chance.

You can also, I guess, buy before hand and either return it as 'cheaper elsewhere' if the price drops 😁
