Another W10 thread...
Ok C16 and anyone else who has done the switch to W10 recently - a job I've been putting off...
How are you finding the Operating System now that it's up and running for a bit? Intuitive? Stable?
T'reason I ask is that I converted one of my lappies about a year ago; still can't get used to it and that particular installation doesn't seem as bomb-proof as W7 has proved to be.
Nevertheless, seems I've got to do it or go to an I-something or a Linux route. <sigh>

Re: Another W10 thread...
I found W10 was stable or as now it tends to freeze and needs a reboot but no BSOD.
I don't like the interface though and opted for an add-on Classic Shell. However I had to do a Windows reset and the W10 display post-reset was different to that before.
You can either work from the App style which seems optimised for touch screen or use Classic View which gives options for W7 and other styles.
There are a couple of Apps I like, one updated enables snipping part of the screen but now you can annotate it too.

Re: Another W10 thread...
Jim, my recent computer problems were nothing to do with Windows 10 as it eventually turned out to be a hardware problem on one of my motherboards. I've been running W10 on three home built PC's since September 2015, a couple of months after it was released. I hated the look of it and installed Classic Shell which gave me the look of Windows 7. Maybe I've been fortunate but I really haven't had any major problems with W10 or its update program.
Sadly Classic Shell is no longer being supported by its author and although it still works okay at the moment no doubt a future Windows Update will screw it up at some point!

Re: Another W10 thread...
Had W10 on a lappie from new. Failed completely after a year, recovery impossible. Installed Linux Mint and have had no problems with that. Sticking with W7 on the desktop.
Re: Another W10 thread...
Very stable and very few actual crashes; often 'self-repairs. Probably the best Windows system yet, but like the previous, I also use Classic Shell. My biggest gripe about it is the geeks at M$ who seem to think I want a different something or other at each monthly update - I would rather have the choice rather than have to put it back to how I wanted it.

I keep trying to get rid of Bing but they keep sneaking that in.
Problem with hanging on to old reliable systems is eventually they can die. I had to do a rebuild and 90% of the programs were simply downloaded from the web.
I have some on CD - MS Office 2007. No longer supported. Same with WordPerfect.

Hmmmmm, thanks. Glad to read that some of us are making it work... tho' I share your opinions about the fiddlers at Micro$haft. They seem to have redefined the word "improved"

Harrrrrrrumph! Lappy no. 1 - a 6 year old Lenovo: W10 installed smoothly, even though it took a looooong time doin its thing. So on to lappy him belong Missis Jim.
Two hours into the process, everything stops. I come back from me lunchtime sarnies to a notice which says that W10 will not install on this machine on account of the video driver chips don't speak to Windows 10 or some such nonsense.
As I may have remarked before,
<Grrrrr>

Re: Another W10 thread...
Did you run the W10 system check before trying? That would normally highlight issues and should prompt you to download new drivers - unless her machine is different to yours and 'incompatible'.

Re: Another W10 thread...
I tried 3 machines, the small ones, ACER I think, isn't have the muscles to take W10. Running the systems check as BOAC said three that up straightaway.

"isn't have the muscles to take W10. Running the systems check as BOAC said three that up straightaway." - sorry, PN, but what are you trying to say?

Re: Another W10 thread...
Run the check? You'll be telling me to RTFM next.
No, actually, it didn't occur to me. 'tis only 3 years old. Anyway, I've now got a new one being delivered tomorrow and I'll chop the old one in. They still seem to be selling for £100+
But I certainly will do the check before trying it on with this m/c...
Re: Another W10 thread...
"You'll be telling me to RTFM next." - don't see why you should be excused - that is all I get....

What does one plan to do when Win 7XP is no longer supported?
