Kindle Wi-Fi

#1 Post by k3k3 » Thu Aug 13, 2020 1:43 pm

I have an old Kindle, bought in 2011, which refuses to see any Wi-Fi networks. I've tried re-booting by holding down the power button for >30 seconds without success, has anybody got any (polite) suggestions as to what I can do with it?

It's running software version 4.1.4.

I assume it does show the wifi as active when you switch it on? If not, I would say it is 'toast'. The other thing is to make sure you are looking for 2.4 Mb networks.

You may be right, I've got some Marmite in the cupboard...

Airplane Mode is Off

Available Wi-Fi Networks (0)
Network: not connected

My Laptop sees four networks with good signal strength.

If you can fight your way through their website you might find either an email route or a phone number.

k3 - keep the Marmite jar handy, as we may need JtR to perform last rites................

Mine picks up 'available networks' straight-away once airplane is off. The only chance of salvation, I feel, is to make sure you are looking for 2.4 networks and not 5.

Does P2 of 'Settings' show a Mac address and wifi capable?

Marmite is back in the cupboard!

I thought, to be on the safe side I'd reset the Kindle to delete my email etc., so I did a factory reset and and it has resurrected itself, everything working as it should, I just needed to re-register it to the kindle account and it downloaded all my content in null komma nix!

No Marmite or assistance from JtR required.

Just remember all your '*****' is duplicated in an Amazon server somewhere in the World 😁

For us honest and god-fearing folk I wish my laptop could be mirrored in cloud, by new one, restore complete and rebuild registry automatically.
