Mobile phone upgrade.
Mobile phone upgrade.
More about phones but computers might be involved.I have been given a newer version of an Iphone.I want to keep my number and transfer contacts numbers.Research on Giggle suggests I need an iCloud or iTunes account on my existing Iphone,of which I have neither.Has anyone had any experience of this sort of transfer ?

Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
When you are setting up the new phone, it usually asks if you want to transfer your data by bringing the old phone upto the new one and it only takes a few minutes.
Edit just move the SIM card from the old one in to the new one.

When all else fails, read the instructions.

Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
Not all phones store contacts in the SIM card; in the past I've had to find the menu option to copy contacts from the phone memory to the SIM card before swapping the card into the new phone.
Sent from my tatty old Windoze PC.

Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
My Huawei even has an app that worked with non Huawei smartphones. Sounds like Apple does it differently. Why not open a cloud account?
Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
The sim card for the new phone is smaller.I have to buy a new one at Tesco's for 99p.
Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
Unless the sim card is fairly new, you should be able to press out the smaller card from the larger. If not you will need to contact Tesco Mobile and ask them to assist.
Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
I'm not sure I'd have use for one. I will only have my phone numbers on it.Being a newer model I may be able to print out my phone contacts. My pics are stored onto a flash drive.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 7:59 amMy Huawei even has an app that worked with non Huawei smartphones. Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
PN a good suggestion indeed. The different SIM does create a problem.
Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
The clever lad at Tesco's put a new smaller sim into the newer phone ( No charge ) and transferred my number over.I will input my contact numbers in manually as setting up a cloud account looked like a pain in the bum.Just need to set up the other bits and bobs.Rwy in Sight wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 10:34 amPN a good suggestion indeed. Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
My previous phone was 'dual sim' which allowed all data to be accessible.

Α cloud account doesn't seem more to difficult to set up than an email accountribrash wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 6:43 pmThe clever lad at Tesco's put a new smaller sim into the newer phone ( No charge ) and transferred my number over.I will input my contact numbers in manually as setting up a cloud account looked like a pain in the bum.Just need to set up the other bits and bobs.Rwy in Sight wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 10:34 amPN a good suggestion indeed. Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
The phone works fine as a phone but none of the front page icons will open.On my old Iphone you clicked on a icon and it opened,no downloading or anything,it just opened.I can't even open the App store.I'm off to see Mr Tesco expert shortly.Rwy in Sight wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 9:53 pmΑ cloud account doesn't seem more to difficult to set up than an email accountribrash wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 6:43 pmThe clever lad at Tesco's put a new smaller sim into the newer phone ( No charge ) and transferred my number over.I will input my contact numbers in manually as setting up a cloud account looked like a pain in the bum.Just need to set up the other bits and bobs.Rwy in Sight wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 10:34 amPN a good suggestion indeed. Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
The only thing different in Sim card sizes is the card around the chip. Going down a size is easy, just remove one or two frames.
Going up is not as easy but if you get an empty frame you can place the smaller card in the larger frame.
Finally, if your card is a larger old one without frame cut outs your phone shop should have a Sim card cutter.
Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
Mr Tesco man placed a smaller card in the newish iPhone for free because I was already on the Tesco network. They only cost 99p.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 1:31 pmThe only thing different in Sim card sizes is the card around the chip. Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
All SIM cards I have ever seen come as standard in three sizes. You just push out the size you need. All the phones I have used lately take the smallest size, same goes for the micro SD card. Very fiddly but only needs doing once.
Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
Notso OFSO- see post #6. depending on the age of the card, that may not be true.

Re: Mobile phone upgrade.
PN and OFSO both right, Boac. I have a sim cutter on the shelf on my right. About 3 quid, I think. Used twice: once for my phone and once for 'erindoors. Also as OFSO says, modern sims already have the cutouts, so me cutter's now clutter.
