RiS, no that was just a figure from the air. If over X years you will have paid an amount of money equal to the cost of a purchased program.
At this point you can carry on using the program you bought but if you subscribe to the cloud version you keep paying.
However at any point the cloud version will be the latest update whereas your paid for version will be X years old and getting older.

Maybe we should start a conversation about free vs paid programs.

If anyone's interested, IJT Direct seem to be a Morgans sibling: often the core stock is identical; current website for both companies lists over a dozen tablets.

Incidentally, one can still buy MS Office outright - no subs. Can be much more expensive than Office 365, though.

Jim. That's the point I was making, the break even point.

I had started a conversation about it here.

Recent discussion with a friend did touch the issue recently: Apache office was named as the best office program for the time being.

I have a copy of Apache which I use sometimes... on odd occasions it will open files MS Office doesn't like.
However, can't switch to OO entirely - no equivalent to MS 'Publisher' in the package, and I use publisher quite a bit.

The biggest criticism of it.

I used Publisher for Newsletters.

Back to the topic.

I did get back a five year old Android tablet I lent to a friend with its associated case with a keyboard. It has some issues with starting it stops somewhere along the procedure and needs to be charged and the browser some times take ages to respond. I used it yesterday for most browsing I do and it worked ok not very uncomfortable. Happy overall although I am not sure if it can do everything I need.

I guess the Tablet is more like MS 3.1 with one program at a time.

It appears Mrs 4ma's i-Pad is in terminal decline - it's rapidly losing battery charge, it gets very warm around the front button, it's not connecting with the e-mail server, all the e-mails have vanished and when we try to get the home page screen all we get is some feckn voice asking if they can help even though Siri is disabled. Never a bloody teenager around when you want one!! Mrs 4ma has suggested a new i-Pad would be a nice Xmas present.

Why an i pad? My Huawei Media Pad from Morgan electronics cost £89 last year, massive storage and battery, superb screen, and is in use for roughly four hours every day, mostly for watching TV. But then I confess hell would freeze over before I ever bought anything from Apple!

Mrs PN's IPad is about 10 and although I bought it I refused to understand it. Now it too is on terminal decline
Last November (note the data) I bought her a 10 inch Kindle Fire. Lighter than her IPad, does most things well, I understand it, and it waz around £75 with offers.

Funny things, iPads. My Mini is about 7 years old, and needs charging every day, tho' I doubt it even gets an hours use. Yesterday, when I got the "less than 10% charge" warning I plugged it in and for the first time ever got a "Not Charging" note. Naturally I pulled and pushed every available connection, to no avail, but ... during this process I noticed that the charge had increased to 12%, so left the cable connected and a couple of hours later I had the full 100 % charge again, still with the "Not Charging" note. Today, back to normal. Nothing I did, and no passing three year old to ask advice from, so wonder what will happen next ?

Can't you get the NRs to make you one from old clocks?
