O-N slow?

#1 Post by Boac » Tue Mar 02, 2021 11:53 am

A definite slow-down in recent days, Alison, in site 'click' response times. It took 20 seconds to post this.

It may, of course, be at my end, but other sites are responding normally.

I noticed the same thing.

Not a problem.

Mebbe it's what Microstiff calls 'a feature'' ?

I believe that the server running O-N is some version or other of UNIX, so we can't blame Bill G.

A couple of weeks ago, my internet connection was weak and kept dropping out.
I complained to my ISP, pointing out that my router was nearly seven years old, and fearing it was about to fail (when I would have no means of contact) could they supply a new one?
This unleashed a whole series of tests and actions and I now have FTTC and the latest router, however I have noticed the 'reluctance' mentioned here rather that what I would have expected, rifle-shot snappy loading.

Seems OK here. Wrong type of leaves on your internet connection?

Judging by the responses it may be a UK > Australia link issue.

I should say that I usually amazed by how fast the turn-around time is on this forum.

I remember the early days of the internet, circa 1985, when they were still using doggy old three way bounced satcomm links. Nowadays the co-ax cable links are blisteringly fast.

Have you tried running “traceroute”? That may show that there are long delays on particular segments of the path from Australia to uk.

Have just run traceroute to ops-normal.org. There were 2 link timeouts in the by portion of the route, but after that the links to and in Australia worked very quickly. On tonight’s evidence, the problem seems to be in the UK.

Just took a wander around our server. Nothing untoward to give me cause for concern.

No problem here either.

Pretty normal speeds here both on 4G and an outdated ADSL.
