As the Mad Hatter said, "I told you butter wouldn't suit the works!"

My mouse went a bit sticky and I got it to bits somehow and unwound thread/fluff from around its axle.

It's probably ten years old, must be good quality, cost $80 when I bought it.

The left button on my Microsoft Standard Optical mouse has gone frustratingly intermittent. Probably because for months I've been using it without the broken battery cover in place and fluff and choccy biscuit residue etc has got in. Together with its associated keyboard it's donkey's years old so a new Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo arrives tomorrow from the river people.

I'm amazed that my Microsoft wireless keyboard has kept on going, just new batteries occasionally. The mouse that came with is long dead.
Just buying cheap wireless mice now, Several laying around.

Anyone know what is the comms protocol for a wireless K/B & mouse?

Is it BlueTooth?

My Microsoft has a USB plugged in receiver and the mouse had, I think, a separate dongle.
I have one BT desk mouse, semi-wonkie, and an HP one for mobile use that works well.
All of the other mice come with a 2.4 (I think) dongle. I don't know if the connections are proprietary. I haven't tried to cross connect any of them.

Unless a mouse is sold as a Bluetooth mouse then it uses a proprietary protocol. I have a few BT mice around, useful as emergency spares because I can pair them with any computer, although my main one has its own dongle. I have three of those though, one for my main machine, one I'm using on my work laptop and the third as a spare.

Can I broaden the question?
Anyone used a bluetooth mouse & keyboard to control a smart TV?
