I'm looking to use a VPN, any advice, warnings, good/bad experiences or recommendations?

I took up the offer for the Surfshark VPN on the Marcus House SpaceX blog. I found some problems running it on my Windows machine (router not 'VPN' enabled) with the offered software and despite excellent responses from SurfShark support I requested the offered refund, duly delivered.

I probably didn't set something up correctly, but using a VPN on my PC triggered warnings from Giggle about sign-ons in unusual countries. The very best VPN as used by loathsome kiddy-fiddlers slows down the connection drastically. I found VPNs more trouble than they were worth, although did put up with the inconvenience on our two phones for a year. Didn't renew.
